Last night, my wife and I watched The Witch (2015), which is now streaming on Amazon Prime. It is a pretty fantastic, slow burn horror film and period drama. (While we noticed some historical inaccuracies, the period dialogue is great.) It is also a remarkably deep film from a Christian theological perspective, and I very much enjoyed reading some commentary on it by Christian film reviewers. (Here is another great review, but both of them have spoilers. If you plan on seeing the movie, you probably should not read them until you have done so.)
I highly recommend it to anyone that is a fan of slow-burn horror, and I now consider it the very best period-horror film. (It is certainly a very challenging film, however, and I understand why it received a much lower rating from audiences than from critics.)
EDIT: Here is another thought-provoking review from a different perspective.
What was the last movie you've seen?

I liked The Witch, but found it really hard to understand the dialect. Especially the dad.

You need to read more Shakespeare!noiseredux wrote:I liked The Witch, but found it really hard to understand the dialect. Especially the dad.

Well, maybe not reading, but definitely go see some productions. Good acting troupes will help you get over the initial hurdle and soon you'll learn to understand things.prfsnl_gmr wrote:You need to read more Shakespeare!noiseredux wrote:I liked The Witch, but found it really hard to understand the dialect. When I see Shakespeare performed, I always bring along a copy of the play with me. It helps me a bit with the dialogue, and it also allows me relish some of the best lines a bit longer.

Turning on subtitles helps a lot, if you didn't try that. Not that it's "translated", but it's just easier to make sense of.noiseredux wrote:I liked The Witch, but found it really hard to understand the dialect. Especially the dad.

Re: What was the last movie you've seen?
it didn't occur to me until the end of the movie. So I'd do that if I were to watch it again. Though I'm not really in a rush to do so. I thought it was "better than average." Shrug.

Does the movie at least play "Season of the Witch" over the credits?

Nope. It plays Witchy Woman. The musical choice really doesn't go well with the rest of the film...MrPopo wrote:Does the movie at least play "Season of the Witch" over the credits?
