Ordered and received 8BITDO SNES30 and it indeed works on the Reron5. It destroys the Retron controller and is wireless.

Tried on Mario 3, worked fine. Giving it a full charge now. It is finicky to sync up but otherwise worked fine.

You will have to tell it which controller you are using with whatever system you are playing the first time you play that system. For 32 bucks it is a great investment for me.

Gonna be playing with it all day!

A wireless controller challenger appears for the Retron 5!

XGaming's NESPAD shipping April 4th!

Not only will this work with all your Bluetooth devices, but it will also work with the Retron 5!

*CONSIDERING INTESIFIES*

Looks like the NES version of the 8bitdo. Look over on Amazon. I have been using the SNES version for awhile now and it works great.

Yep, looks like an exact copy of the 8bitdo. Probably manufactured in the same assembly line.

Ok since someone said you can beat Hydlide in a afternoon I was going to attempt it, do the newer versions of the firmware play it decently? I think I'm still on 2.0 beta 5(I never updated since it's worked fine until now seemingly only having problems with this one as far as i know)

I've been considering selling my R5. To be fair all the time I wrote on the matter of development and helping my former contact who worked on the firmware was all on the old model box. I've put few hours on the black system I've had I guess a year now. I mostly use Gameboy these days and Genesis second to that and I do that on the system I picked up instead. Sure HDMI is clean and nice, and it's a space saver, but I don't much use it.

I think I'm holding out because of the hot saving feature. Funny enough I think I'd likely use a Raspberry Pi3 despite it not using carts more which is kind of sad just because I have original hardware to use still.

Actually the problem with Hydlide isn't firmware - it's the physical cartridge itself. Look at the pins, see how they're thinner than normal. There are a few other old NES games like this as well, don't know why. Make sure the game is super clean and insert/reinsert until it makes a connection. Takes me about 10-15 tries.
