The atmosphere, story, characters, everything just seems right. And starting out as a commander who's respected by his troops is a welcome change from the usual RPG start, where you're an amnesiac nobody who then makes a name for himself. The only complaint I have is that the graphics are older and crappier than I expected, but I guess that's on me for waiting until 2014 to play one of 2007's biggest titles. I even owned a 360 at the time...
There is a texture mod on mob nexus that you can use that helps things look quite a bit better. It was locking up my PC when I loaded the game up. Luckily it was only the amd raptor program so I just had to disable that and it works fine now.

I'm in the same boat as you though never played through the games before and I've been waiting on a nice sale to pick up the trilogy. Now I'm just totally sucked into the game.

I really want to play some ME3 multiplayer soon which is the main reason I wanted to pick up the game in the first place.

I love Jak and Daxter. Are you playing it on PS2 or are you playing the HD collection?
PS2, Sir.

I've owned it for many years, but never found a chance to put it in. I put it on my summer game list this year.

I have all the others too, except Lost Frontier.

My biggest complaint so far is going back to the DualShock 2. Been well over a year since I've used one, feels really weird when coming from a DualShock 3.

Wonderful 101: Finally starting to feel like I understand the combat a little better. The game is actually quite difficult if you don't realize that they expect you to "weaken" larger enemies in a Pikmin fashion before unloading on them with your weapon. Figuring out that certain enemies are much weaker to one of the weapons helped a bit too. Still working on familiarity here, but its already starting to pay off.

Crisis Core: Took Ex's advice, put a complete halt on any and all missions, and the game is much more enjoyable now. Where the story was feeling scarce, but too forward when it does appear, it now feels fluid, and fast... like, almost too fast for a FF game (Not a bad thing). Breaking the story up with hours of missions was definitely my problem. And, honestly, the game could be harder anyways, so skipping the missions will probably just provide a better experience overall.

I just met a certain flower girl, and man... the feels. Got called back to Shinra and am about to go... help... Hojo. Never thought I'd see the day.

Thanks for the advice on this on Exhuminator.

If I had a Wii U, this is a game I would definitely check out. It seems to be very polarizing among gamers

I know you haven't beaten it yet, but I'd be interested to know where you'd rank it as far as the Platinum/Clover games go.

I had the same problem when I started playing it, beating shit tons of missions and feeling not very rewarded for doing so. To make it worse, because of those I was terribly over leveled and it ruined the challenge of the actual story missions. I totally blew through the game with zero resistance once I went back to the story because of that.

But man the story missions just get better and better, and there are some awesome vistas to explore and great boss fights ahead of you. Most importantly if you have any fond memories at all for FF7 (especially its opening act) you will love Crisis Core's ending. It gave even my cold hard ass teh feels.

You bet, always liked the cut of your jib.

You know what is weirder is going to the DS3 from a DS4. DualShock 3 feels like a piece of crap now.

Yes. The DualShock 3 does feel like crap compared to a DualShock 4. It's interesting how subtly the design has improved over the years, but the DS4 is a big step up.

Finished Jak and Daxter, by the way.

I really hate the rubber on the analog sticks. It's already starting to come off on my controller.

Well don't know why but got the urge to play "stick it to the man" again just to see if I could get farther. This is one game where I'm really trying not to use a guide but dang I got a chapter further and stuck on guards again *sigh*
