I look forward to adding and reading about the world of retro gaming! Thanks for the warm welcome!
Haha, so I am finally here and able to post After being twice mistaken as a spambot and banned!
All that aside, I wanted to introduce myself as a long time lurker who finally got the itch to start posting, since these forums have so many topics relevant to my interests.
I am first and foremost a long time competitive videogamer. Had that itch to compete ever since seeing the file 'theWizard' and the 1992 Blockbuster World VG championships, in which I made it to state finals. I mainly play Fighting games now, since to me, they are the purest form of vs. game there is. No excuses, no blaming of teammates, no blaming random map features. Just you vs me, mano e mano. I miss the arcade days for sure (since all arcades in my region have closed), playing online just isn't the same.
Secondly, I am a fairly ardent collector. I have over 4000 games in my collection, 2 japanese arcade cabs (Taito Egret 26 and a Namco HD Noir, tons of jamma boards and MVS carts, plus I modded the Noir with cthulus to play ps3/360 games), over 24 consoles and just a ton of promotional junk I have accrued over the years. I'd say my main passion is finishing off my Xbox collection of 'every domestic retail game ever released', which is what I am very close to doing. I have a large amount of PS1/PS2/3DO/SNES games and am always looking for bargains in the most unlikely places (since the internet pretty much RUINED the hidden gems market ). I also collect figures and trinkets from a lot of my favorite game franchises.
I see a lot of impressive collections here, I am eager to build up some rep and do some trading on that front.
I also wanna start reviewing some of the original Xbox games that kinda passed under the radar, and due to the fact that it is a very overlooked and underrated system in general.
So thanks for reading all that crap, I hope to be a productive and interesting member here. Depending on my work load I will likely post in waves.
Cheers!

I've been lurking around this site for awhile, started back when I was just getting into collecting and was looking for general guides on what to look for, what's rare, etc etc, and thus I found this place. After I read all the articles I noticed there was a forum, and needless to say I finally went to get an account. I even read through the entire post where mike and blu and the other people who's names I can't remember tricked everyone into thinking they were going to buy a bunch of boxes "As Is" for $5000 and only looking in two of them before the purchase. It was great btw, loved it, didn't see the ending coming. Anyways I have been collecting for a little bit now, my brother started it and then I jumped in after he had the ball rolling. I never grew up with some of these games and systems, for various reasons, but I remember reading game informers and EGM over and over and fantasizing about playing games like Super Smash Bros and Super Mario 64 and Shadow of Colossus and etc etc etc. Now that I'm older and have a job I've been able to live the dreams of old.
My brother and I eventually want to start a store, arcade and all. I worked in the business for a few years, saw what people did right, saw what they did wrong, we think we can do better. Of course we are in planning stages for the foreseeable future, he just got out of the army and is going to school for business, I am working full-time and running our ebay "store" on the side. I say "store" because we don't really sell that much stuff, we sold a lot of our duplicate copies and we resell stuff that we find for low prices around town, neither of us could take a paycheck from it, we just use it as kind of a savings account, plus we are compiling a list of what each game sells for so I can start working on a database.
Anyways
Type of games I love:
-anything for SEGA, I grew up on the genesis, it replaced my NES and it blew my socks off. Will never ever get rid of Gunstar Heroes or Altered Beast or Rocket Knight Adventures or The Adventures of Batman & Robin or etc etc etc. As the old saying goes "SEGA does what Nintendon't"
-Fighters. I'm not that great at them, but I love Tekken, followed by Smash Bros, Soul Calibur, Street Fighter, etc
-Playstation 1 - Tekken, that is all I need to say
-GBA - To many great games to list
-Xbox (original) - First time I saw Halo I had to have it, it truly blew my mind, I still play play Jet Set Radio Future (the pack-in title) multiplayer from time to time.
-Box Art - Love it, some look cool, some are goofy, some are just wtf, all are great.
-The back side of PS3 games/Blu-rays- I know this sounds weird but they feel soft, like silky soft, plus they're scratch-resitant.
Types of games I don't enjoy/not my thing (but still collect because it's an obsession)
-Atari/Magnovox/Intellivision/Colecovision/C64 games - I know that these were great when they came out back in the day and all, but seriously I haven't found any game other than frogger that I truly enjoyed/could look at. It's just too retro for my tastes.
-Zelda - I will admit I recently decided to play through all of them, just got to Majora's Mask, but yea, I can see how when they each came out individually people thought they were amazing, it just doesn't have that effect anymore, maybe when I get to the newer ones and Wind Waker HD I'll begin to see the fanboys way. It could be because I went through Ocarina of Time without the horse because I didn't know Epona existed, I'm still sour about all the time I wasted running around like an idiot.
-Sega 32x/SegaCD - I deny their existence by hiding my paltry collection of their games behind my genesis carts. In my perfect world I've never heard of them and the Saturn was the greatest thing since sliced bread.
- DLC and Online Passes - YOU HAVE RUINED A WHOLE CONSOLE GENERATION FOR COLLECTING! HOW AM I SUPPOSED TO HAVE A COLLECTION OF COMPLETE GAMES FOR YOUR SYSTEM WHEN HALF THE CONTENT WILL BE GONE IN ANOTHER 5 YEARS. Sure theres GOTY editions for the big titles, but what about indies and things like Far Cry Blood Dragon, these will be all gone eventually, if I don't have them all by the time they pull the plug on the 360/ps3 how will I get them! Also Online Passes are evil and I'm glad we squashed them.
That's about all. I'm thinking about pulling all my stuff out of boxes, taking some pictures, and posting it in the collection page. I've got a lot of stuff but most of you guys have me beat pretty solidly.
Thanks for reading, I know it's a long post, I will try to be active around here, you guys seem like my kind of people.
