Open it up and adjust the potentiometer on the laser. Just turn it counter-clockwise a few degrees and test ad nauseum until you get it to read the disc.
Edit: Not with that value I won't .

Mega Man 5 gets crapped on a lot but it's got some really beautiful level graphics and is still better than a lot of NES games. It's easily the easiest game of the six on the NES (health and extra lives drop like candy) so maybe you'll end up liking it.
Haha. I was never huge into Mega Man and didn't have any of them growing up. I was playing MM 5 yesterday and it was the first time I ever beat any level in any MM game. How sad is that? I do like it though. Maybe this will inspire me to actually sit and play through instead of losing all my lives in 5 minutes and chucking my controller across the room.

Speaking of Mega Man...
I was perusing a local Gamestop today, and as I was checking out I noticed a complete copy of Mega Man ZX Advent behind the counter. This store does not save DS cases; so, I knew the case and manual were heading to the dumpster. (I also knew that Mega Man ZX was a high priority for my DS collection.) Thankfully, I was able to find the game on the rack, and thankfully, the manager was kind enough to throw in the case, manual and insert. Accordingly, I was able to grab a nice, complete copy of Mega Man ZX Advent (DS) for $13.5. (I also picked up a copy of Trauma Team (Wii) for $9.)

20.00 from craigslist. posted as a sega and listed at 40.00 but it didnt have controllers or a power cord and he let me talk him down. Genesis port fired up like a champ. the CD side boots no problem but just says reading disc in an infinite loop. soooo... anyone know much about these? is this something that can be fixed?
either way, im still pretty pleased for 20.00 to have a cool genesis backup if nothing else
I actually just got one of these a couple of weeks ago (though not nearly for as good a price as you did) with a similar issue. It would try to read the disc and then stop and state there was no disc in system. I fiddled with it some and got it to periodically read discs but literally took about 10 minutes to load one screen to the next. I wound up taking the laser assembly out of a Sega CD I got for $7, desoldering the assembly from the attached circuit board and swapping it out with the one in the X'Eye. It fit perfectly and runs like a champ now. I think mine was more an issue with the motor though, which I believe is also easily replaceable without having to sacrifice a Sega CD. I was just looking for a quick fix and will probably revisit it later.
I'm no expert on this stuff so I'm sure someone may have a simpler repair than that. Try the potentiometer first, as nullxor suggested. If that doesn't work, you may want to start looking at transplant options if you're handy with that sort of thing. You got a hell of a deal regardless. Congrats!

Well I've had the employee of the month game for pc since I was younger and it's not the best game in the world but it's decent for people that are fans of the show. And the game I picked up probably isn't as good as the 3d games we've gotten after the two I actually own. I've just never played the 3d ones.

Re: Video Game "Look what I found"
Not exactly a video game, but video game related.
Was at the thrift store (I generally don't go to thrift stores since they rarely get anything in my area) and checking the CD racks and came across a sealed copy of the Uncharted 2 soundtrack for $2. Not the craziest find in the world, but a pleasant surprise to be sure.

This kind of thing always surprises me. Who keeps sealed copies of 27 year old games? I just can't imagine some one thinking "I will just keep this newly released game in its original wrapper in storage" . Even if it was old stock, after 10 years ('97) they would either have sold it for very cheap like $3 or give it away or something.
Re: Video Game "Look what I found"
Or someone bought it when it was on sale, but never got around to playing it! I have some PS2 games still factory sealed, purely because I have never tried to play them. It happens.

I played a couple on the PS2,an okay platformer. The Wii uDraw version is fun with all the Flash style games.

Do that game right, add a 5 1/4" floppy drive to load the larger disks.
