Re: Video Game "Look what I found"
1. They aren't really competing with Gamestop. They specialize in games, but that's maybe half the store. The other half is toys, antiques, and stuff like that.
2. I don't even have a smartphone! And I was the only one in the store, now that I think about it. I just knew it was a rare game and definitely worth more than $5 and really hard to find.
3. The regular store owner wasn't in the store at the time. He was out somewhere at that point, and his girlfriend was the only one there. And she is knowledgeable about the prices of games, and knows about price guides and whatnot the same as the store owner. And yeah, I obviously bought a couple extra games not to look suspicious, but the games I got were ones that I was interested in trying (for the record, they were International Superstar Soccer 64 for N64 and The Flintstones for SNES).
4. I'm new to Racketboy, and didn't know it would make an oversized post!
And in terms of the statement saying it was only to make a profit, I have no intentions of selling the game. I'm going for a complete NTSC Master System set, so selling it isn't in the cards. And I have actually played the game, and it's pretty awful. So I don't play it at all, but the collector in me wants it, so that's good enough for me.
Hope I didn't sound too argumentative or snarky; just wanted to explain my point of view.

@smoogy yeah I dono't blame you at least you got two games along with it that you'd actually play unlike where most people would just get two crap games they'd never play or touch ever...

Great score! And that's how I got one of the rarest, if not the rarest, US Master System game for $5.
You'll find that some folks on here do not like the more aggressive, "game chaser" style tactics that some collectors employ. I've read a few heated posts concerning such things. Don't sweat it.

Agreed. Great find.vatermuzik wrote:Great score! And that's how I got one of the rarest, if not the rarest, US Master System game for $5.

(As someone trying to complete a Sega Master System collection, I am also quite jealous.)

As one of the more "argumentative" of the group (and likely one of the folks that vatermuzik is referring to) I'd just like to point out that doing what you did seems OK to me, since you are doing it at a retail level. I think it's shady to do at garage sales or something like that. But at retail, it's on them to know the prices.vatermuzik wrote:Great score! And that's how I got one of the rarest, if not the rarest, US Master System game for $5.

This is probably the fairest way to look at it. I totally agree with this statement. Retailers should know the product they're selling.pvt_awol wrote:As one of the more "argumentative" of the group (and likely one of the folks that vatermuzik is referring to) I'd just like to point out that doing what you did seems OK to me, since you are doing it at a retail level. Re: Video Game "Look what I found"
i can't believe you purchased a rare, expensive game at a cheap price well below market value and then had the NERVE to brag about it on a retro gaming forum in a thread specifically created to brag about finding rare, expensive games at cheap prices well below market value!

Oh I thought it was for bragging about overpaying for cheap games!aaron wrote:i can't believe you purchased a rare, expensive game at a cheap price well below market value and then had the NERVE to brag about it on a retro gaming forum in a thread specifically created to brag about finding rare, expensive games at cheap prices well below market value!

Assumption they are struggling and that they sell newer items to compete with Gamestop. Retro games do not compete with Gamestop.CRTGAMER wrote: 1. You walk into an independent Retro Game store struggling to compete with Gamestop.
Assumption he meant scanning with a phone and was looking up online (debunked) and that he was hogging the aisle.2. Scanning the price, did you block the aisle while looking thru your smart phone?
He didn't say that he found the game one day, hid it somewhere, then went back on a day that the big boss wasn't there. Yes it was camouflaged with other cheap games, but if you find something cool do you jump up and down like a giddy schoolboy and announce that this thing is worth more than you're asking so will you please take more money?3. You covered up the game with two other cheap games INTENTIONALLY to get a cheap price. You also made sure it was not the owner that saw the games you brought up to the counter.
I bitch about oversized pictures all the time. That is not one of them.4. Nine months later you still boast about your crooked value with an over sized attachment here on Racketboy.![]()
Assumption they aren't going to keep it. They've kept it 9 month so so far already.A Sports game, obviously bought only to sell. Please at least play the game before your attempt at a "Flip" profit.![]()
