So while nothing is missable, that's something I am going to be wary of as I play. Apparently, you get different stat bonuses depending on what choices you make. I'm going to try and shoot for max stat boosts

I'm still working on FFXIII...I had gotten to Chapter 11 and then my PS3 got the YLOD problem and I had to start over. I am around Chapter 8 or so, wherever it is when Lightning joins up with the Black-haired gal from Austrailia.

Congrats, you just hooked up with arguably the biggest damage dealer in the game. Fang is very useful if you plan on going after some of the tougher monsters in the game. With the right build, she hits HARD.

The names are kind of appropriate in a way. Lightning is extremely fast as a Ravager with the right build. Fang just rips through health bars as a commando

My FFXIII disc cracked while I was playing it, exactly one day after the warranty ran out. I did not buy another one.

Ouch, that sucks.

I'd think the game would be cheap to buy by now wouldn't it? At least, a used copy should be

Yeah, it should be, but I think they're all cheaply made. I've never heard of a game breaking during play unless someone kicked a vertical 360 over.

Seems odd for a blueray game. I think you got some fluke copy. That's very odd

Kind of nifty what they did here in FF XIII-2. Enemies show up, you see nearby NPC characters as well as your party member engage in combat with the enemies. This isn't a "real" fight though. The real fight begins when either one of the enemies makes contact with you, essentially "attacking" you or you press X and swing your weapon at an enemy, which takes you the traditional combat screen where your party fights the enemies for real. If you initiated contact, you get pre-emptive strike. I guess it's gimmicky, but I like seeing a simulated fight occur before you initiate real combat. It sort of feels like there is a bigger fight going on, but the game is focusing in specifically on your party.

And can I just say how classy this game feels. They recap the last game for people who didn't play it. The data base entries you pick up in the game fill in the blanks even further. When you load a save, you get a recap of events with cut scenes like a sort of, "in last week's episode". Everything feels polished and user friendly

Final Fantasy games often walk the line between memorably epic and laughable over the top and ridiculous. There is a sequence right in the beginning of the game though, involving one of the characters from FF XIII in an aerial battle that is pretty well executed and does feel pretty damn epic. Riding a flying creature while engaging in battle with a large, dragon like enemy in pursuit? Yes, please.

I don't know if it's good that this game has quick time events, but it's interesting that you get more than one option sometimes when they pop up. So the game pauses and asks you if you want to toss a spell at your enemy, or just do a physical attack. It's interesting if nothing else, and frankly, they gave me plenty of time to pick one.
