Does MGS2 come to a satisfying ending? As in, if I didn't want to play MGS4, would I still feel somewhat like I completed the story?

Yes. It’s an awesome game. I beat it almost two decades ago, and I still haven’t played MGS4. I am perfectly satisfied with it.

Good, that's what I was hoping.

I love MGS3 James Bond-ish intro... shows how high they were aiming for. Ironically, today the videogames industry is bigger than movies.

MGS2 has a satisfying ending for its own particular arc. What it doesn't really do (or even try to do, as I recall) is wrap up the series as a whole. That's what MGS4 does.

I like to take screenshots for GameFAQs. Amusing observation today.
Air-Sea Battle Atari 2600 ROM: 2 kilobytes

Hmm.
I'm just trying to keep it to where I don't need to keep my PS3 around. MGS4 doesn't seem worth it to me. I mostly care about the MGS3-PW-V arc, and the only character that isn't answered for by the end of 2 at that point is Zero, as far as I know.

Looking over my review stats on GameFAQs is interesting. My most popular reviews are those for the Ys games, plus Lunar 1.
On the flipside, my Atari reviews get an average of one view every three months. Yahatetoseeitfolkz

Could always just make a point to run through 4 before you get rid of the PS3 (or put it in storage). It's not nearly the time investment that V is, and the original release didn't even have trophies.
Story-wise, MGS2 benefits from the fact that it came out before all the prequel titles. So, there's less to try and account for. To be fair, 4 probably brings back characters, locations, Metal Gears, etc that don't
need to be revisited, but are anyway. For as much of it that ends up being an overly indulgent dive into/expansion of the plot (such as it is), there's also just a whole lot of fan service. Personally, I think it's worth a visit if/when you've played most of the other games in the series.
Generally, I'd agree though, the Big Boss arc games come together better, likely due to largely being the more recent entries.

I might give 4 a go when I get to that point. Looking at the story synopsis for most of the games, 2 can actually be used as an ending if one is okay accepting a lot of ambiguity (which seems to be the original intention until 4 was released), which wouldn't bother me that much.
I guess I'm just over thinking it because MGS is one of those "must have" series that was strong during the 6th gen, which is really my bread and butter period. Shows how young I am, that's my go to "when games were good" period.
