Here's an interesting one -- I couldn't consider it "beaten" but it's a big accomplishment anyhow.
The Activision Decathalon. I wager this game probably messed a lot of 2600 joysticks up back in the day. But now, we get this on many Activision compilations, including the Anthology on GBA where I played this.
10 events, and each one is individually scored. Anything over 1000 pts in a single event is considered top notch. There were 3 patches originally available for the game, depending on your total score. A score over 10,000 got you a Gold patch for this game.
Here's what I did.
10,109 points. David Crane's high score in the game manual is 10,133.
Just 24 short, but nailed that one!

I'm not even going to bother numbering, because I imagine my year end total will still be under 10 games. Pathetic!
Anyway, uh... I liked this a lot more than Pierrot did.
The sense of humor was right up my alley. and overall it's a game I can definitely see myself going back to again in the future. I'd really have liked to see other games adopt a few of its ideas, namely the way it just says "fuck it" and skips battles entirely if you totally outclass an enemy. I thought the rolling HP/PP counters were pretty interesting as well, and they saved me a few times.
I'll have to check out Mother 3 one of these days. Would be nice if I didn't have to use a flash cart or emulator to do so, though.

Glad I gave this a shot.
- Fixed everything from XIII pretty much
- Customization and a little more openness from the get go
- Lightning is barely in it (she sucks)
- The soundtrack threw me off and was pretty awesome, didn't expect to like it as much as I did
- Decent enough story arc with the new main guy and the villain
- Amazingly cool final boss
It was a lot of fun and easy to play. I'm pretty excited for Lightning Returns even though I still hate her, but maybe it'll fix her. Who knows, it looks tons of fun though.

I stand by my opinion of the game, but I will say that the auto-win scenarios are convenient at times, if annoying in their own special way at the same time. (To me, anyway.) Glad you enjoyed it. I tried out the intro to Mother 3, and it seemed a bit more interesting, for whatever reason. I thing it feels like it might end up being a better game.

I only post in this thread when I beat a game for the first time, and while I have beaten Castlevania (NES) before, I thought that the GBA port - and my experience with it - was different enough to warrant a post. First, NES Classics: Castlevania (GBA) - unlike the original version of the game - allowed me to save my progress between levels. As a result, I was able to practice some of the later levels, and I have developed strategies that might allow me to 1CC the game at some point. (I can now get through the last two levels without taking much - if any - damage. The Grim Reaper, however, remains a bit of a wild card, and beating him still comes down to chance me. Thankfully, Dracula is much more predictable, and I can now defeat both of his forms consistently.) Moreover, the ability to save between levels allowed me to play through Castlevania's "second quest" for the first time. The "second quest" in Castlevania is the same as the first except that: (1) the enemies do more damage; (2) bats and medusa heads appear constantly in most sections of the game; (3) merman attack with more fequency; and (4) the Grim Reaper's scythes appear in larger numbers. These changes make the game radically more difficult, and they change the game's tone substantially. Specifically, these changes shift the games's focus from combat to evasion since they required me to move constantly (or, as I discovered, stand perfectly still) to avoid the constant streams of bats and medusa heads. They also make the first section of the fourth level the most diffcult section of the game, and I continued dozens of times trying to avoid the bats and mermen and that quickly and unpredictably sent my character to his doom.
In sum, I recommend the GBA port to people that have completed the NES version of Castelvania and are looking for both an additional challenge and a good way to practice the later sections of the game.

So, I toyed with putting this on here, as even though the credits have rolled, there are still two worlds left to discover. In the end, I guess since the curtains were drawn, one can consider the game completed.
Super Mario 3D World, as it stands, is probably the best game to have come out of 2013. Whilst Super Mario 3D Land felt like an interesting prototype of what Super Mario World would be if translated into a 3D environment, Super Mario 3D World feels like it takes that simple idea and runs with it and exploits it, refines it, to the fullest. Unlike 3D Land, World has a feeling of openness that isn't present in its handheld predecessor and is all the better for it. It isn't Mario 64, and you're still limited to a very narrow path, and yet you don't feel nearly as limited as you might have in Land. Similarly, the developers didn't limit themselves to only a few ideas and concepts like 3D Land. There are so many ideas here that only show up for a single level, never to be seen again, and yet you could build an entire game around them. As I said in the thread we have for the game here, every time you think they must be running out of novel ideas and neat things to show you they just keep shoving more in your face. It's like being force-fed at the best all you can eat buffet on the planet. You take it because you like it, and because it has been done so expertly, and it never ends! It took me 9 hours to "finish" the game and there's easily 2, maybe 3 hours of unique levels left. It's certainly the best Mario game since the original Galaxy. This game also wasn't lead by Miyamoto, and I think it serves to show that Nintendo will do just fine in his absence.
So overall, yeah. If you needed something to push you over the edge towards purchasing into the Wii U. This will do it. Hell, this would be reason enough for many people to purchase the console alone.
