Both games from the "Red Box" era of the Genesis. It felt like Sega's last attempt to keep people playing the Genesis, which was already aging. They did an awesome job, and I'm afraid not many people still play these gems.
Ohhh man, pure nostalgia blast for me. It's kind of crazy how dreary and dark the second game is. Absolutely loved those games and the style really stood out.

One thing I noticed, which I've never noticed before, is how short all the levels in SMB3 are compared to SMW. I love both games, and a lot, but I'm gonna have to go with SMW. Better levels, flying was better, and it had fucking YOSHI. I know that SMB3 had all the suits, but let's face it, you were using raccoon Mario 99% of the time. Toad houses and the puzzle games are missed, but we had the Top Secret Area and Yoshi, so it's all good. SMW also had 9 worlds instead of just 8.
Buuuuut all the power ups in SMB3! I like how distinguished the worlds are too and I want to say the difficulty curve is a lot steeper than SMW.

But yeah, love them both in the end. I wish All Stars was on the WiiU VC or something, because I'm a bit more fond of the SNES versions of the first three, despite growing up with the originals when I was younger. It was the SNES versions I replayed as I grew up.

About the save feature, that's what I've always said about SMB3 vs SMW.

I can't really argue whether SMW is better than SMB3, but I can argue that SMB3 is a better visual game than SMW. Super Mario World had weird looking goombas and koopa troopas and I feel there wasn't a huge variety in worlds.

I've played one Mega Man X game a day for the last 3 days. Managed to tackle the first two within the sitting each day, but X3 took probably twice as long to slog through. Its my 2nd time with the game, and yet again I somehow have gone through a terrible order, and completed all 8 bosses, Bit, Byte, and Vile... without finding a single armor upgrade. I cleared every level without once using a Ride Armor.

I'm tempted to look up an optical order and give the game another spin, because as of now it easily feels weaker than X and X2. The game is more difficult, which would normally be appealing to me, but the difficulty feels like its coming from a lack in fluidity that the first two games just nailed.

I wasn't able to finish in one sitting. I got to Doppler Stage 2, only to realize I didn't defeat Vile with a specific weapon that I had no way of knowing to use, so I'm pretty sure I can't get the Z-Sword now. Gold Armor has been obtained though (Still looks awful)

Also, since I am playing these in the ps2 Mega Man X Collection, this was my first time with (what I believe is) the Saturn version of X3. The anime scenes and boss intros are pretty cool... but the music and sound affects are so strange. Like they were recorded in a giant hallway. Not terrible tracks (although not a touch on the snes version), but the actual quality of the audio just seems very poor to me.

Hopefully tomorrow I can just knock X3 out quickly and jump into X4, which I remember enjoying very much. Then, into unknown territory with X5!

As a kid I loved Yoshi, but as an adult I find he slows the game down too much and I generally ignore him.

It's actually a port of the PlayStation version which is pretty much the same thing.

X3 has some really annoying level design choices. No matter what order you go through you're still going to end up needing to backtrack quite a bit if you want to get everything.

Great game. My daughter loved it when she was two (and would probably love it now if I played it again). She called it "Robot Dancing" (or, more accurately, "Bobot Dancing").

I've got 45 hours in Etrian Odyssey Untold, two floors cleared in the Gladsheim ruins and halfway through the third stratum of Yggdrasil. I had hit a roadblock for a while with a boss in the ruins (queen bee), but finally got past it. I still enjoy this game and will beat it, but I'd be lying if I didn't say Untold can be tedious and extremely formulaic at times. But when it's great it is GREAT.

Other than that, I've been dabbling in two Android games. One is another RPG by Crescent Moon, and this is it: https://play.google.com/store/apps/deta ... alon&hl=en
Pretty good RPG thus far, I prefer to play it first person.

The other Android game I've put a shameful amount of time playing into is this NSFW-ish Japanese bowling thing: https://play.google.com/store/apps/deta ... urin&hl=en
Bourin is the only mobile game I've ever succumbed to IAP with. Clearly I am a man of questionable ethics.
