Got this yesterday, loving it so far!
Just for kicks, a size comparison between this and the last Neo Geo handheld:

Different strokes, I guess.BoneSnapDeez wrote:Got this yesterday, loving it so far!
I got mine today, and I must say that imho this thing is not worth anywhere near $200.
"lightweight" and kinda "cheap" are the first thoughts I had regarding the overall quality of the dock, the stick and the portable. And the picture quality when output to the TV, is not up to the standard I had thought it might be. I'll test it some more and tweak the TV settings to see if I can get a "cleaner" picture. But I'm not holding out much hope in that regard.
Scaled down emulated clone system, most certainly. Not much more than that.
As a collectors piece it's fine. But for me that's as far as it goes. I can get far better Neo Geo emulation quality off of my PSP.

Mine turned up this morning;

The handheld feels pretty robust and I like the classic NG pad, and while the arcade stick feels a bit plasticy and lightweight it does the job fine and will double as a good stick for my PC. I like the dock and even though the picture quality via HDMI isn't great, it's not a deal breaker for me. I'm just happy being able to play these games on my TV.
That being said, it's disappointing that you can't access the game dip switches, as games like Metal Slug and Samurai Showdown II are censored with white & green blood respectively. Also, it would have been nice if they included save state functionality, or at least the ability to save your scores. It does however seem like this thing is going to be easy to hack, as it has an internal micro SD card and people have already managed to load on other games.

The mad scientist over at NG would have to say otherwise - it's actually got some hefty horsepower under the hood compared to the Dingoo, Caanoo and the likes. They've already made some significant progress on the handheld and I can't wait to see where they take it.Thierry Henry wrote:Scaled down emulated clone system, most certainly. I'm also waiting on an announcement from Tommo concerning future game cards!

^^
well to be honest I was speaking more in terms of what I experienced having opened up the box and setting everything up.
I mean I was more than just a little peed off seeing how the colors looked like they were kinda washed out and with color bleed when hooking the unit up to the TV. There is no excuse for the quality of the picture to look this poor via HDMI, imo.
At first I thought I got given a dud and that surely there must be something amiss with my particular system. But no, I'm not alone.
That and the fact that there's hardly any "weight" to the stuff. People that say the handheld "feels pretty robust" must have received the limited special edition directors version of the unit.
So which leads me to think that folks such as myself who have owned/experienced the real deal Neo Geo and have played on the real thing, maybe are not really the core target audience for this clone system?
And that my criticism of it is maybe unfounded because I'm missing the point by comparing it to the real thing, and so then obviously looking at things from the wrong perspective?

Plenty of the limited edition systems (with ninja masters) on Amazon for $199.99 for those looking.
Re: Official Neo Geo X Gold System details and price announc
I already have MAME running every Neo Geo Game ever.
I might just get the stick.
I might just get the stick.
Re: Official Neo Geo X Gold System details and price announc
I returned my system to Target last night for a full refund. While the system was decent, I felt the emulation was lacking. Neo Geo games play and look better via Wii so I'm sticking with that.

There was recent press release detailing the first new card with four games and a firmware update. Price was not mentioned but the release date was reportedly April.
