Re: Anonymous strikes again
I'll probably still get Sony stuff, but stuff like headphones or cameras, not something that needs personal data to use. Or at least think twice before getting something that does.
NES, SNES, PS1, N64, DC, PS2, GCN, Wii, PS3, 360, GB, GBC, GBA, GBA SP, PSP 3000, and 3DS XL

Add one more victim: The share holders. OUCH.
I used to hold Sony stock, years and years ago. I sold when I first heard rumors that the PS3 would cost $600 + at retail upon launch. That was the last time their stock took so bad a hit - and this is a lot worse.

Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?
Re: Anonymous strikes again
That graph is awfully misleading. The Y-axis starts at 28.75. This makes it look like an 80% drop, when really it's more like a 4% drop over the past two days. It's not that bad of a drop, and it's been lower in the past year. It'll probably bounce back after people stop freaking out.

Re: Anonymous strikes again
You're one of the lucky ones. Yikes that's a HUGE drop. I would be very surprised if Sony's gaming division survives this clusterfuck. I just can't understand what Sony were thinking having such weak security. I mean, it's to the point where it makes them look amateurish and not an 'industry leader' (Kaz's words, not mine). This company has never had a great track run in experience, almost everything Sony has broken on me, their customer service is pretty pathetic and they're just not reliable enough for me to give them money. The gaming division was the only division I spent money with, because on the whole their consoles were good machines (if quite ropey, reliability wise, but they tended to eventually get it right towards the end of the generation). The moment they started to piss me off was the launch of the PS3, being the most expensive of all the region launches AND being crippled right off the bat (we got software emulation from day one, not full hardware like you guys got). That instantly put me off, I held off from buying one because of that. Then the price dropped and I bought one based on the exclusive titles for the system. Everything was good until Sony started with the whole YLOD denial. This is the real beginning of the end, this showed me what Sony thought of their customers. Instead of dealing with the issue properly, they flat out refused to accept that something was wrong. It doesn't matter if only 1% of machines are affected if there is a clear cause (poor quality solder bridges on the GPU). That's a manufacturing defect and should be dealt as such. It's not the customer's fault at all. Yes machines are subject to flaws in manufacturing, I'm not deluded but this was clearly an issue for Sony, one that they refused to acknowledge. They didn't throw any of their customer's a bone no matter how fresh it was out of warranty. Thankfully when this happened to my friend he was able to sidestep this bullshit thanks to EU regulations regarding the 'fit for purpose' part of our consumer statutory rights, they (OFT) don't deem a console with a projected 10 year lifespan (Sony's words) fit for purpose if it breaks just after warranty period is up. He got a replacement for free. Sadly, this sort of thing is only possible in the EU. You shouldn't have to do that though. Not on a £300+ piece of hardware. I mean, an admission of fault, hell even an apology might have done. All they succeeded in doing was cement their reputation (in my eyes) as faceless robots that don't care about their customer base.Flake wrote:http://www.google.com/finance?client=ob&q=NYSE:SNE

Pretty much all my problems with Sony come to their absolutely bottom of the barrel customer service. It's almost as if they treat you like a slave, and that we should be grateful for them letting us buy their products. That sort of arrogance just does not sit right with me. Apple may have a similar sort of arrogance around their products but I've never had an issue with their stuff. My Macbook Pro might have suffered from a case of Trigger's Broom but at least every single issue was fixed for free within 48 hours (the vast majority of them were fixed while I waited) and I've yet to have a problem with any of my iPhones. Thanks to their customer service I know I can trust that company and it's worthwhile buying their products in the future. Likewise with Logitech, I recently sent an email to Logitech telling them about an issue with the RMB on my Mx510, I wanted a replacement microswitch and wondered if they had a part number or such that I could do a direct replacement with as I'm good with a soldering iron. They told me they didn't have access to such information since the product has long since been out of manufacture but they gave me a 50% off discount for Logitech products. The mouse is 6 years old (maybe older, I got it around the time that Half Life 2 came out) so them giving me anything is way beyond the call of duty for their customer service. Suffice to say I will be purchasing more products from them in the future if this is how they treat a customer like me.
Kinda got off topic with my tales of customer service gone right there, but it just shows that it's not impossible to do this. I'm sure there's going be somebody telling me that I'm an 'asshole' for expecting this kind of treatment from somebody I give money to. Or that I'm somehow exploiting the system in some way (irixith and modman, you never did come up with a counter argument). The way that Logitech put it to me when I asked why they gave me a 50% off discount for a 6 year old mouse breaking was "investing in our customers so that they will invest in us later". Makes a hell of a lot of sense if you ask me. I hate to think what Sony is going to have to invest (if there's anything left after this debacle) in order to buy our loyalty and trust back. If anything positive has come from this, you simply do not piss your customers off. It definitely is the 'straw that broke the camels back' so to speak. I never trusted this company since they removed OtherOS, this just adds another item to that long list of reasons why I don't support Sony. I'd say 'your loss Sony' but clearly it's everybody's loss now. Thanks Sony...

Speculation time: How will this affect the release and sales of the NGP? I wouldn't be surprised if it gets delayed until PSN is heavily reinforced, or canned entirely. Next gen could end up being just Nintendo and Microsoft.

I have had the same thought, and that was BEFORE this all happened. If Nintendo can finally bring their A-game to the tech side of gaming in terms of network gaming and graphics...then what would Sony's role be? Nintendo can survive on its first party gaming assets but I don't think Sony has that same ability.AmishSamurai wrote:Speculation time: How will this affect the release and sales of the NGP? And now THIS happens right before Nintendo reveals a console that might just put it back on par with its competitors? The last thing Sony needs is a viable substitutive product to hit the radar right as their gaming division implodes. Yikes.
But we could be reading too much into this. Microsoft survived selling a defective product for years and didn't catch too much long term flack. Sony might dance out of this too.

If I remember correctly, the oXbox was sold at a loss. I think the only thing keeping the 360 going is Live.Flake wrote:I have had the same thought, and that was BEFORE this all happened. If Sony does decide to bow out, I want some company to try and step up to fill in the void. Apple's already doing that with the iPhone/Pad/Touch. Maybe we'll see the iBox in the future?
