El Shaddai: Ascension of the Metatron

This is one of the best looking games of E3 in my opinion.

Is that a Beat-em'-Up, or an Action RPG? I can't tell.

I'm waiting for new depictions of Nintendo's money printing machines in GIF form.
Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?

That image pretty much sums up my feelings about the games biz over the last 10 years.

If anything I think things are finally starting to improve with the recent spate of "indie" style low budget games (and I don't mean that as an insult, but that there's interest yet again in games that aren't multi-million dollar affairs with 2+ year development periods).

When developers are willing to try taking risks again and doing new things with a fast turn around, and sticking to one or two specific ideas in a game, we'll see games being unique and fun again.

As always seems to be the case on this board, the number of FPSs actually released in the last decade is really exaggerated. The Halo, Call of Duty, Medal of Honor, Killzone, 007, Half-Life, Battlefield, Doom, Quake, and Unreal series of FPS games have a combined total of roughly 50 unique titles since 2000.

If you want to talk about over-saturation, look at the total number of Mario-related games released since 2000: 60+ (only counting US releases and excluding VC, arcades, etc.)! From my observations, there were far more platformers at E3 than almost anything else. And though I am excited by some of them, Nintendo is the worst offender in the industry for re-hashing the same ideas.

What's sad, though, is just how close those three screenshots looked to each other. With Mario you have a ton of different types of games: golf, kart racing, platformer, etc. Nintendo just decided to use Mario in their various games to add some appeal due to the familiar characters. In terms of actual Mario games in the NES sense there haven't been that many.

A list of 60 Mario related Games
Same characters/universe, not all the same idea/concept, unles you consider fun, try again. I personally think the FPS ratio was fine last generation, its this ratio on the PC, 360 and PS3 that it has gotten out of hand. You neclected to mention that since 2000 at least 50 new FPS games have been made a year.
Even if their are less FPS then other genres, they sure are thrown down your throat online and in stores. If I go into a Gamestop I would be pushed more toward a new FPS game then a Mario game, except galaxy and NSMB wii.

Not true: http://www.racketboy.com/forum/viewtopi ... &start=105

Also, the point I was trying to make was one of industry stagnation. Sure, I see some of this happening in FPSs - but there are other genres which are just as guilty if not more so, which for some reason get a pass.
