That's not actually the case. Section 117 of the US Copyright Code reads:
(a) Making of Additional Copy or Adaptation by Owner of Copy.— Notwithstanding the provisions of section 106, it is not an infringement for the owner of a copy of a computer program to make or authorize the making of another copy or adaptation of that computer program provided:
(1) that such a new copy or adaptation is created as an essential step in the utilization of the computer program in conjunction with a machine and that it is used in no other manner, or
(2) that such new copy or adaptation is for archival purposes only and that all archival copies are destroyed in the event that continued possession of the computer program should cease to be rightful.
Note that this applies only to computer programs.

Does this still apply since the DMCA came into effect? I've seen quite a bit of evidence that indicates people are using the DMCA to claim the evils of emulation (despite the fact that these games were made in a pre-DMCA era).

And as I've said to others: feel free to argue any way you like. What matters is how wealthy the lawyer/company you're going up against is, not who's right and who's wrong. That's the beauty of the US legal system.

As in algorithms only? What then about the artwork and music within a game ROM?

Atom does indeed have SSE2. It even has SSE3.

Dreamcast and NAOMI emulation is working on 2GHz Intel Core 2 Duo with a mid-range GeForce card:
Demul main page: http://demul.emulation64.com/
Demul WIP site, including the 0.4.9 beta release (in Russian) http://forum.emu-russia.net/viewtopic.p ... a&start=20

Atom's 1.8GHz current max might be a teeny bit slow. But Demul is getting faster by the day.

Hmmm, I was under the impression that Saturn and Dreamcast emulation still aren't what you would call impeccable -- not good enough to replace the real deal, anyways. Glitches and compatibility would definitely bother me. Plus, there are the controllers and the interface. You can get around those issues, of course, but it seems like not without a hassle. I've toyed with the idea of a set top box as well, but it seems like too much of a hassle and too much money. Eh, but that's me, and my opinions certainly won't keep me from drooling over pictures of your set up if/when you get to that point. :)

Your right, Saturn and Dreamcast is not perfect. A good bit from it in fact, but it is only getting better and better with each release. PS2 is coming along aswell.

I'm hoping to add emulation to a HTPC i'm looking to build. I'm aiming for a AMD 5050e (a 2.6Ghz CPU) paired with a 780G mobo and 2Gb RAM. Would this be enough to properly run nullDC and Project64? I assumed as it was capable of playing back blu-rays it would handle emulators pretty well, but cannot find any information online about how it will cope. If anyone is running a similar or lesser setup, could they post their opinions and experiences? Thanks in advance!
