I'm getting flashbacks of the mid 90s all over again.Mozgus wrote:My thoughts on DSi are much like the Gameboy Micro. It's a downgrade without that backwards compatibility, and I sincerely hope it flops. Nintendo needs to be taught a little failure. This success seems to be going to their heads lately. They think they don't have to try anymore.
DSi not backwards compatible at all?

Re: DSi not backwards compatible at all?
DSi was made with the Japanese market in mind. The feature set is 100% aimed at a person who rides the train to work in Tokyo everyday. Nintendo was pissed PSP is outselling DS in Japan this year and this was their attempt to reclaim that market. It has worked short term and is selling well over there. Kind of seems a new killer game would be a better way to build long term business, unless maybe they have a REAL new handheld on the way soon and just needed a little bump this year.
I don't see it doing as well in the states. The new features aren't as attractive to us in a video game system, and portables just aren't as popular here like consoles. The DS lite is perfect for our market. The fact DSi is region locked for new software coming out kinda bums me out too. I play more imports on DS than anything.

How many times do I have to say it in this thread. The DSi is NOT region locked. The only region locking you could talk about is that the DSi DOWNLOADABLE GAMES are region specific.
ie. Japanese DSiWare online store purchases are only accessible via a Japanese DSi....

Not really related but, it's sold over 500,000 in a week or so (the JP commercials are cute too) so it seems to be selling okay.
That and the Cyclo team has a video of their card working on the DSi.
