Whats so bad about Greatest hits?

Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

seriously, why are the greatest hits box art templates so frickin ugly...

instead of changing the boxart, it should be standard to just slap a sticker on top of the shrinkwrap...i know some GH-type titles have this, so i wonder why this isn't more common...

it seems like a win-win for me...publishers get to blatantly advertise how successful their game is on the retail shelf, and OCD gamers get their normal-looking boxart once it's opened and on their shelf...

I think they make them ugly on purpose. Maybe to increase the collectibility of the orignal releases? not sure why, they could make them look much nicer. I have a few greatests hits ps1 games because they were found for cheap! But for the most part I prefer the originals for 2 reasons. They look better and they are worth more! But the greatest hits are nice to have in addition to your originals so you don't care if they get a bit used.

I mean it's a downgrade really. You get the same game, but cosmetically uglier. Now if there was something to be gained it'd be a different story. The Japanese re-release of Castlevania:Symphony of the Night for example(known as Playstation "The Best" series I believe), gave one of the fairy familiars the ability to sing a song for Alucard. Yes, it's silly and insignificant, but it made it into the Saturn version as well as the PSP version. One of the few instances I can think of when a greatest hits release had anything new to offer.

Don't some of them get edited?

I shelve the ugly red gh's after the black with my ps2 stuff, but genny is way tougher to split. Especially if I've got a run of games (the sonic series for instance) I have split colors and it drives me nuts. The 3rd party cases for those are crazy gross in a line-up.

I've never heard of that happening. You mean like censorship? That usually happens in the original releases. One of the things I hate about localization
