Shenmue the Second Worst Game Ever?

The thing with shenmue is that it is not instantly likeable. In that it will take new players a while to get the hang of and many get turned off by the slow pace in the beginning also getting to grips with the controls also takes a while but given time and patience Shenmue might just grow on you..also the fighting bits are awesome

Yeah, it does take a while to get in to. And they are such teases, with the fighting at the beginning, but then it's all the crazy city exploration and stuff, and I'm left wondering when I can do the fighting.

Shenmue isn't a brawler per se, which is why I think you'll find Yakuza more to your liking. Random encounters in the latter ensure a steady supply of fights but said fights are mostly too short for a full-fledged brawler. But it's among the best in a disappearing genre!

I don't know what exactly is "G4" that everyone's referring to , and i don't really care TBH.
The only thing that i have to say , is , that i can't take seriously someone who's giving the title "2nd worst game...ever" to Shenmue.

Shenmue is a masterpiece , and was really ahead of its time.

PS.Im one of those who supported the console & the game from the first time , and
i wish all these people who learned about Shenmue right after its death (or even today) could support it back then.

Things would be different today.

Shenmue is easily one of the best experiences in gaming. It's combination of immersion, storytelling and interactivity is enthralling.

Shenmue is one of the few games where I've started playing and not stopped playing it (except for toilet breaks or sleep) until it was finished. I was completely hooked. I played it when it first came out. Ditto for the sequel. Enjoyed them all immensely. The only other games where i've done that with were Metal Gear Solid and Final Fantasy VII but no game has ever gripped me as much as Shenmue did.

The vast majority of naysayers that i've spoken to never played the game when it was first released. I think that goes a long way to explaining why opinion is split so widely.

G4 is utter crap. Utter, utter crap. The only reason I watch it is Ninja Warrior, and the occasional glimpses of Olivia Munn. Unless the obsession with Morgan Web is supposed to be ironic, people are morons with god-awful tastes.

If G4 makes a feature story calling a game out in a negative context, make sure you buy it; it's almost assuredly a good game. These are the same people who gave Tales of the Abyss the same score as a crappy FPS in one episode. They also tried to make Rhapsody for the PS1 looks like crap, and give all manner of praise to the newest Halo, GTA, etc.

If only they could give reviews and news without having to smother everything with their "personalities." It'd also help if their reviews were based on more than just 2 hours of play.

Shenmue is ass. Yeah, it was groundbreaking but it was boring. Most overrated Sega game ever.

Any game where it's fans say, "You gotta get like 6-8 hours into it before it gets good." is a bad game. I know I'm in the minority on this one, but I bought in when it came out and hated it then.
