Every 360 you can get on store shelves now is a Falcon with HDMI. They don't suffer from the RRoD anymore.
I'd like to say that my 360 is still working since launch...
I'd like to say you're somewhat lucky. A friend of mine is on his launch unit and it's fine too. Then again, another friend has had four of them. These are people who take good care of their stuff not like some people who take crap care of things and complain they're on their 9th 360.
I'm always leary of buying such an expensive piece of equipment second hand. Too often in my expirience there is something wrong with the system that doesn't show up until days or even weeks after the sale in which time you have little recourse. So no I would never buy one of the newer systems from a pawnshop. I'm not a big fan of pawnshops in general.

My friend had a core on launch and that lasted about 6 month and then he got a RRoD. He got it swapped on warranty and then sold it. I know plenty of people at the pub that have had 360s for longer than a year and they've never had a problem with them. Since it's been launched i've known that one guy who has had RRoD. I know plenty more people who have had problems with the Playstations (1, 2 and 3) that have had serious problems (myself included, i've gone through 3 PS2s and 2 PS1s, I'm gonna be well pissed if my PS3 dies on me) but for some reason you don't get everyone under the sun complaining about it!
My consoles are always bought brand new and never move from the place that they are first installed. (With one exception, and that is my 360, which I brought to uni with me, but that was placed back exactly how it came in original box and packaging, I still have the black tie-wraps for the cables.)
