buying a jagaur
Re: buying a jagaur
An N64 would provide an inexpensive way to gain access to a lot of exclusive great games for a small overall investment. It certainly has more collecting and gaming potential than the Jaguar. Or you could save your open shelf space for future acquisitions and get a retro handheld such as the Game Gear, which is inexpensive, or the more expensive and rare choices.

Re: buying a jagaur
I bought a Jaguar, thinking there would be a bunch of diamonds in the rough. Not really, just a few cubic zirconiums; Ruiner Pinball, Wolfenstein, Cannon Fodder, Burnout, Tempest, and I actually found myself enjoying Club Drive in a weird way.
But Tempest you can get on the Saturn you already own, and Wolfenstein just makes you want to play the PC version. The controller works adequately for the initial levels, but when things start getting more intense it just didn't cut it for me.
I still sort of regret buying my Jag. None of the games are great, just good. I'd recommend just about anything over the system, but if you don't like the NES or SNES, we clearly have radically different taste. Still, you could always go with something more old school, like a Colecovision, InTV, or 2600. All phenomenal systems.

For those of us Tempest fans, the Tempest 2000 on Saturn isn't really worth it. Beyond the limiting sound, the third type of bonus level just isn't in the Saturn version.Krooze L-Roy wrote:But Tempest you can get on the Saturn you already own...
Tempest 2000 was the system seller for me. While the Jaguar has a number of games I'd consider "good," it has very few "great" games a system needs to really draw consumers to it. The 3DO is a much better system in terms of console underdogs and even on that system it can be a struggle to find great titles on (but for a few great ports).
Re: buying a jagaur
i just got a jaguar and cd drive about a month ago and i like it. i havent played it too much yet, but wolfenstein 3d is excellent... doom is not too bad... and blue lightening is also pretty great. i dont have too many games, no AVP, but its still a neat system. i am glad i chose to stick with nintendo when these systems first came out, but i def love having a jaguar now. i like playing it for the same reason i like playing the nes and snes (not as much, but its that simpler, retro feel to the games that dont require hours to get into.
def a good novelty console to show your friends too!

Re: buying a jagaur
The problem with Jagaur is that their is not many games to get and most are ports.I don't really see these games in any used stores which can be a problem when your trying to find games unless you can get them on Ebay.I like the games on GC,but my problem is the controller it feels weird and awkward.
Systems: Sega Dreamcast(x2), Sega Genesis(x2), Sega Saturn, Sega CD, Genmobile (portable Genesis), FC Twin, PSX, PS2(x2), GBA, SP, Xbox 360, N64, Showcase Arcade

Where and how did this thread rise from the dead? Anyway, I decided against it along time ago. Guess everybody here just likes reviving dead posts...

it's not a bad time to revive the past and get into jaguar collecting.
a large warehouse of games has been unloaded into the community late last year. You can get some good titles new/sealed for next to nothing.
