I'm with you on that. Honestly, I don't even like plastic containers for leftovers. If I'm going to microwave something, it should be glass. The downside that it's heavier to carry to work and takes up more space in the fridge, but with the explosion of microplastics everywhere, I think it's worth it to cut plastic out as much as possible.Gucci wrote: ↑Wed Aug 28, 2024 9:24 pm The other day, I went to the local super market and saw they had olive oil in a plastic bottle. I thought that was outrageous for extra virgin olive oil. Glass bottles I thought was the norm. I didn’t want anything from the plastic to impart flavors onto the olive oil.
I just saw a post today that Johnnie Walker Red Label now comes in the plastic bottle. Just awful. I’m not a scientist or anything but having a liquid with 40% ABV and in constant contact with plastic isn’t a good idea.

Re: Beverages of All Kinds
Captain Morgan apparently changed the formula. There's also a new label, and a plastic bottle.
The new formula doesn't taste bad at all. I'm not even sure I would be able to tell a difference. The new label, I will miss the old label but it's kinda whatever. But the plastic bottle, that is what I'm most disappointed about. Aside from the health side of glass versus plastic, a plastic bottle just feels CHEAP. Especially for a product like this. Now I feel like I'm drinking a cheap drink.

Olive oil has been packaged in plastic bottles at least from some makers for some time. In fact, one kind with a twist top for easy pouring has been getting good reviews for flavor and easy of use (and prevention of over-use). But that brand isn't using transparent plastic. Transparent plastic is usually the stuff that has the most risk of chemical seepage. Opaque plastics are more stable and safer.
Re: Beverages of All Kinds
That reminds me: Founders changed the label on their beer. The old label was classic, the new one generic. The beer is the same, though.Ziggy wrote: ↑Thu Aug 29, 2024 7:14 am Captain Morgan apparently changed the formula. There's also a new label, and a plastic bottle.![]()

A number of companies have been "modernizing" their labels in an effort to "stay current". TBH, my local favorite brewery isn't doing the worst job of it, but I do miss the label I associate most closely with their product. In this image, the back left is the label I love most. In front of that is their oldest label, and the newest is in front (and also back right, for some reason). I do like their new brewery logo, however. Font is similar enough to suggest continuity, but overall a little more eye-catching.

Re: Beverages of All Kinds
I don't mind a new logo/label/whatever, per se. But the "modern" look is really bland and boring, and I hate it.
Take Captain Morgan's for example...

The old label had a cool pirate on it. The new label looks more empty, with a stupid pirate clip art.
One looks legit, and the other looks like some bootleg knockoff version of it.
I hate that "empty" modern look. A lot of movie covers do it, and it drives me nuts.
Examples:
Who decided that white empty space is the look that we all want? That's like starting with a white canvas in Photoshop, pasting one image on it and exclaiming, "Done!"

The combo was f more white space and cleaner fonts means it’s easier to quickly read and identify the cover. It’s about text legibility and accessibility, basically.

I didn’t know about the difference with colored bottles and clear bottles. Regardless, I’m not a fan of both of them. It was a slap in the face when Snapple changed over from glass to plastic. The best way to combat this is to empty the oil out into a glass bottle.
I like Founders beer. I didn’t know they did a label changeover. Their CBS, KBS, and the KBS derivatives were a favorite during fall and winter time.
Has anyone messed with the concept of an infinity bottle? If so, are you diligent with keeping up with list of ingredients you put into it? Like keeping notes and amounts on a piece of paper? I’ve always wanted to but I don’t drink that often to get one going.

I stumbled upon a video of how to make homemade Red Bull. The thought never crossed my mind, but now I want to try it.
In short, you take the rind of orange and lemon and put them in a bowl with sugar. After a while, that sugar reacts with the rinds and extracts stuff, which mixes with the sugar and makes a gooey syrup thing. Then you boil some spices and herbs, which the only one I can remember is ginger but there were just a few others. You add your rind syrup thing to the boiled spices and that's essentially your concentrated Red Bull. You just mix it with seltzer and that gives you something close to Red Bull.
Of course, you would have to add caffeine, taurine and vitamins to make it an energy drink. But what interests me is leaving those three things out. That would get you the Red Bull flavored drink without the energy part. One other thing is that this homemade concoction would be cloudy compared to the commercial Red Bull. The video said there's ways to clear it up, but I'm not sure of what that process is.
I actually like the way Red Bull tastes, and that's why I'm interested in this. I limit myself to one small Red Bull per day, and that's only if I feel like I need a jolt. It would be nice to enjoy one outside of that though. One good example is a Red Bull Vodka. I had one once, sometime in my 20's when I didn't mind having a Red Bull in the PM. These days I would never dare having a Red Bull anytime past the mid afternoon. So my options would be having Vodka in the afternoon, which is not something I'm looking to do LOL. But a homemade Red Bull, I could have that vodka drink in the PM if it's minus the caffeine and whatnot.

I too am a fan of the way Red Bull tastes. I like all of the flavors they've released over the years, but the original is still best. It's nice that we can replicate it without the things that give you energy. You can at least tweak it to you liking, like if you have sensitivity to some of those energy inducing things.
SPeaking of energy, nothing gets me wired up like a Manhattan Special.
Anyone ever tried these? Been a fan favorite for many years. Used to be much easier to find back in the day as it was in almost every deli in Manhattan, Brooklyn and Staten Island. I see them in grocery stores like ShopRite but not always.
