Essential 3DS and WiiU eShop Games, DLC, and Updates
Re: Essential 3DS and WiiU eShop Games and DLC
I didn't even know there WERE updates for 3DS games.

Re: Essential 3DS and WiiU eShop Games and DLC
Both Nintendo and Sega made 3D versions of some of their 80s hits. Nintendo only ended up releasing six games on the eShop, and of them I'd only really recommend Excitebike which makes good use of the 3D effect, but is also just a quality widescreen remaster even if you turn off the 3D. I'm not big on 3D, but they really reworked Excitebike to make the effect a lot more impressive than it is in most full price 3DS games.
The other NES games in the series are Kid Icarus, Kirby's Adventure, TwinBee, Xevious, and for some reason, Urban Champion.
Sega was more prolific with their 3D Classics series and they ended up with 29 classic conversions. A number of these are available on the very good Sega 3D Classics Collection which is available on a cart for about 20 bucks, but many are only available from the eShop. Here's a list of the games: https://segaretro.org/3D_Classics
I got Space Harrier, Super Hang-On, and OutRun a few months ago when I mistakenly thought the eShop was closing. Like Excitebike, the 3D conversions are good in these titles, and if you turn it off you still have dynamite versions of some great games.

I quickly scanned this thread, so apologies if someone already mentioned this, but... The eShop closes in March 2023, but you don't nessecarily have that long to make purchases. You only have until May 23rd of 2022 to add funds to your eShop account using a credit card. And you can only add eShop cards until August 29th of 2022. Once August 29th hits, it will be impossible to make new purchases from the eShop unless you already have funds in your account.
I think it would be worth adding this info to the first post.

This isn't entirely true if you have a Nintendo Network ID linked and a Nintendo Switch. You can add funds on Switch and they will be available on Wii U and 3DS on the same linked account.Ziggy587 wrote:I quickly scanned this thread, so apologies if someone already mentioned this, but... They dropped the ability to add funds via credit card on 3DS and Wii U in Europe a while back, so this is the main way I've been buying games on the older online stores for some time.

Re: Essential 3DS and WiiU eShop Games and DLC
I scanned all of my 3DS collection to see what DLC the games had available. It's possible I missed stuff if it is only available in game and I havent started the game yet - I mostly checked the game box and the title screen menus for DLC options. For the full list of what I checked, I did all of the 3DS games on my backloggery:

This is the list of DLC I found and a short description so people can judge if they think it's worth investing in:
3DS DLC:
I also saw an article online which said you can search 'update' on the 3DS eshop to see a full list of game updates available, which should save you needing to compile on yourself prfsnl! I did this and it works.
The best thing about it is you can download game updates for games you don't own so that if you ever buy them in future, the update will already be on your 3DS ready to go!

Sweet! Thanks, AJ. I’m definitely doing this so I have all the updates for games on my “want” list.alienjesus wrote:I I also saw an article online which said you can search 'update' on the 3DS eshop to see a full list of game updates available, which should save you needing to compile on yourself prfsnl! I was going to hit up the fire emblem series on the 3ds down the line. In order to buy and download the dlc, you are forced to play the game a bit. Looks like I need to also this sooner than expected.
I own too many hoodies jackets hoodies and DS games and I’m not ashamed!
Re: Essential 3DS and WiiU eShop Games and DLC
Quick update on the fire emblem nonsense.
I am going through Awakening now. I’m on Chapter 1 and need to progress past Chapter 4 to get access to the store.
Next is Fates. This one I need to progress past Chapter 6. This is quite complicated. I have the “full version” with all three stories. However, if you have either one of the two games, you can buy the other story and the middle story as DLC (latter one being DLC only outside of the super expensive cart). I assume that down the line, the version with all three stories will cost an astronomical amount of money.
Last game was some remake. Echoes. I read that you need access to the map. Not sure of the chapter.
