Re: They hunger dreamcast port
Wow, I have waited a whole year for the next version, please finish this for us DC gamers! Paranoia final version has been finished as of yesterday, and saves work and it is so awesome.
Please, this is like probrabaly the last Half life PC mod to be ported to DC, so it needs to get finished please?

Re: They hunger dreamcast port
I must have some psychic link to this thread because I dont normally check the sega sub-forum any more but today I thought I would see if there was anything interesting.
I fully admit that I have not touched the DC port of They Hunger in over a year.
I'm currently in the process of developing my second Xbox Live Indie game, which I'm hoping to announce within the next week, and this is consuming most of my effort just now.
Once its out of the way I could see me maybe taking another look at they hunger and seeing if they guys behind the Paranoia & CS ports have managed to work around some problems I had.

Wait a minute. There has been a Dreamcast version out for over a year.CantStrafeRight wrote:They hunger is a zombie themed single player mod for half life. You can read about it here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/They_Hunger
I've been working on porting the mod to the dreamcast on and off (mostly off) for the past few months and I felt it was time to tell people about it. (This means that people will complain if I get lazy and that will motivate me to work on this)
Currently its playable but there are alot of bugs.
Are you the original coder with a new version or just converting the PC level to work on the Dreamcast?

Appreciate the honesty. A great coder skill to accomplish the PC to DC conversion.CantStrafeRight wrote:I just converted the PC version to work with the Dreamcast.
If okay can you enlighten us on the how's?
There are tons of Half Life Mods just waiting to be converted to the Dreamcast.
Thanks!

Well, Paranoia is as optomized as they can make it, and saves ARE working now, and the saves don't take up a whole VMU either, so that must be great news to you.
I think you should speak to OVERRIDE and Dreammatrix, they would be more than happy to help you!
I agree. I think afraid of monsters is one that many people have wanted ported to the Dreamcast. Also Heart of Evil: Napalm Editon, which is a Vietnam zombie mod. But personaly I would love to see some good WW2 mods ported.CRTGAMER wrote:Appreciate the honesty. Re: They hunger dreamcast port
No codding is needed, just a good understanding of Half Life and how its mods work.
Half Life stores most of its mod(or main game) files in pak files to compress them and keep things tidy
The basic just of what you have to do is open the pak files on the dc version and replace the files inside it with the mod you want to play.
Unfortunately due to the fact that the dreamcast version of the game was not designed to work with other mods and a lot of things have been hardcoded, you will have to make a lot of changes to the files to make them work.
As a rule of thumb if a mod has the same weapons and enemies as the original half life (even if reskinned) you should have less problems copying it over but if it has multiple knew features, enemies and weapons there's a good chance that it just wont work with out a lot of work.
