Alright so my question is this I had read online that you could actually boot SEGA CD games on the original Xbox from a mod. Is this true? My SEGA CD died on me and I have really been wanting to play some of my old games so this would be a great way for me to do that. Will a soft mod work for this or have I been mislead by the internet yet again lol?

I think it can...I remember reading a bunch of stuff like that. basically I think you run an emulator and then load the sega cd games through that. Don't know if it needs to be modded or not though. I don't have an xbox or ever want one so I can't really test anything out.
Somebody sell me a model 1 modchip for Saturn. Please.

You could softmod your Xbox without all that crap. It's been a few years since I did it, but it just involved opening my Xbox and hooking the hard drive up to an extra IDE in my desktop and applying a patch or two. There were a few more details involved, of course. And you could always apply the patch to a different hard drive, if you felt like upgrading to a larger one in your Xbox. Yeah, this is a bit more difficult than the way being referred to in this thread, but, it works fine and involves zero dollars (normally).

why complicate everything!! IRC? softmod tools like softmod installer deluxe (SID), which I highly recommed, is very quick and easily to get on bittorrent. Personally I don't like the other methods because splinter cell, a usb stick and the usb cable will cost you so little compared with all the benefits you will get and you will get a great game. There are hundreds of tutorials on softmodding so google it. I've softmodded about 15 xbox and never had to open one up. If you get SID it will even come with a nice pdf guide with pics. Hope I can take my xbox to hell...

I am in the process of softmodding my Xbox now. I used Splintercell, and cut an old usb cable and twisted the wires to a breakaway controller cable to replicate an Action Replay. I downloaded the AR software. I have set it up to boot directly to XBMC. I have GBA, NES, and SNES running on it. I am working on N64 but am having problems getting Surreal to even boot up.

So far I am loving the hell out of it. Total cost is like $5 now but time spent learning everything has been like 20 hours (I'm a nub on all this stuff). Ultimately I intend to install a bigger hard drive to allow for PSX and arcade games to fit. Beyond that, I will try to use it as more than an emulator machine and true media center I hope.

If anyone is thinking of doing this (especially for upcoming Together Retro like me) I highly reccomend it and will offer all help I can. I'll ftp you everything you need or w/e, looking that shit up is a pain in the ass you should avoid if you can. My brother's birthday is today and he sees what I am doing and is dying for me to give him a fully modded console for his birthday when I am done.

So I tried to perform the splinter cell exploit today. I plugged in the memory card, I transferred the saved game file. I loaded up Splinter Cell, chose the linux saved game, then selected check points. My xbox says that I should get it serviced. It has done this twice, but to my luck it seems like it still works. Have I made some horrible noob mistake here? Any advice on how to get the softmod working?

There are two files to transfer, did you do both of them?

There are 5 files in the SID package, you will need to transfer TWO of these to your Xbox (this is a little different from the older SID systems so please beware). You need the main installer file, and the Gamesave for the game you wish to use. Here’s what the files do:

SID5.Installer 􀃅 The main Installer
SID5.Loader.SplinterCell.NTSC 􀃅 Loader for Splinter Cell (NTSC Version)
you know what? i forgot to put the SID 5 on there. that means it's not on mine either. hmm. it's easy to solve. just let me figure it out. you need to put the drive in your pc and add the file thru AR installed on your pc. it's my fault i'm sorry.
