There is a fair bit of lore but you only get a spoonful at a time each alient artifact/ruin that you visit gives you about a paragraph of history on the race that used to inhabit the planet. For instance the adorable Gek actually have an insanely bloody history centered around the First Spawn who sound insanely evil with full blown genocide of the genetically inferior and etc  . The other races have similarly disturbing histories as well.

I feel like the relationship system is pretty crap in the game though I'm 10 hours in and have basically the best standing possible with the 3 races I've encountered so far and none of the conversations really have any lasting effects aside from lowering or raising your standing with a given race. You can get an alien fired for sleeping on the job and then immediately talk to him/her again as if nothing happened.

As of yesterday I have started working on crafting a new warp drive upgrade already did one that gave me 5 and this one is much more resource extensive so I'm hoping I get 10-25 solar systems per jump once I get it installed. Just finished gather 1000 gold, finally bumped into a planet with emeril so I'll have 1000 of it in no time, just have to get started crafting the 3 Dynamic resonator's.

Crafting is another thing I have a little bit of an issue with the available upgrades don't have clearly stated states aside from a +1, +2, +3 rating on some of them and some seemingly have the same description but different required resources and once crafted seem to be of different levels of quality. I've just been having to guesstimate which upgrades are best based on which has the more difficult components to require so I really wish they had thrown some basic stats on them.

Taking the last 2 comment since my last, yeah it seems very much like it would be enjoyable. Be a dick, be casual, get more lore or less, do what you want, but not harassed by childish man babies online who have too much time on their hands to screw with others as an annoying distraction yet expect it from the game depending whats in your system of planets. I'm not huge on crafting, but my experience in space flight/sim types games I haven't minded because it's more minimal, ship based mainly raising some stat or changing out primarily some gun or armament that keeps you alive.

So I went through the Atlas quest line and was thoroughly underwhelmed with two upgrades to my warp drive it took me maybe one and a half hours to visit all the the Atlas structures and get the 10 Atlas stones required to finish the quest some of them were interesting at first but each of the structures was repeated at least twice and the dialogue was pretty bland with a somewhat crap ending. Honestly it's nothing special so don't go out of your way to do it unless you really want to.

Now I'm focusing on getting to the center of the universe but I'm 175091 light years from it at the moment after taking a few black holes that shot me 1,000-2,000 miles lightyears  forward with each jump. The Black holes however severly damaged my ship including the warp drive that took forever to craft and repairs are being a pain in the butt. So now I'm focusing on building a third warp drive and just naturally taking my time getting there. My current two warp drives can take me about 850 light years per jump at the moment so I'm hoping that the next upgrade puts me over the 1,000 mark. Still going to be a drag to manually hop around 200 times to get there but that seems about the best way to go. Only bad thing is I've had about 5 game crashes mid warp now so that's going to drag it out even longer since I'll have to stop at space ports to activate the save system every few jumps or risk loosing hours of progress.

I'm still just taking the game slow. I broke into my first manufacturing facility last night and got the blueprints for crafting antimatter. I crafted another warp cell and I'm just going to concentrated on exploring, looking for upgrades, making more money to buy new ships and crafting more antimatter to craft more warp cells.

I also had my first in space confrontation yesterday. The first time I didn't really know what I was doing (I know, you point and shoot, but still...) and got quickly overwhelmed and destroyed. I went back to my grave and picked up my stuff and then got attacked again, but the second time I beat them all.

I landed on a new planet and I am currently exploring it and scanning everything I see. I've come across quite a bit of lifeform on this planet.

I completely disagree on the lore and story comment. It is FILLED TO THE BRIM with story and lore. I have learned bits and pieces of certain alien languages and they have some very outspoken opinion on some story stuff. Lots of mystery. Just because the story is subtle doesn't mean it isn't there. Trust me, it is there.

Oh and some tips for space combat get a ship with phasers they auto lock on the enemy as long as you are pointed in their general direction and they do a ton of damage.

Also you can recharge your shields midcombat which is really handy when facing multiple enemies. If your fast in the menus it can take as little time as 1-2 seconds to get shields refilled as long as you have the resources to do so.

Just about got stuck in a cave today somehow managed to land funny and when I took off it dragged me directly into the cave and slowly I worked my way about 100ft in :P. Actually had to dig my way out thanks to the random invisible walls that keep you from crashing actually making it impossible to fly out manually.

Anyways finished my 3rd warp drive and now I can jump a little more then 1,500 light years which is a little farther then a black hole takes you without the risk of damaging the ship. So I will get to the center in around 133 or so jumps given it's hard to aim directly towards the center. Now to start the great stockpiling of the warp cells :P.

So yeah navigating to the center is a bitch each jump is apparently only getting me 200-400 light years closer because it's hard to aim seeing as there is no real assist system aside from the pathing to the center which only connects to the closest stars and only out to about 500 light years :P.

Anyways I think I'm going to start jumping as far as possible but at the same time aiming for systems with black holes to maximize the value of my warp cells since using a black hole nets about 1,000 light years toward the center and doesn't use a warp cell. I just hope my warp drives don't get damaged again at least not for a few jumps repairing stuff every time I use a black hole is a real bitch.

Edit: Getting to the center of the universe is a bitch and it's really starting to bug the crap out of me. Really it should not take a month of ingame time collecting supplies and jumping non stop just to reach the center :P. They either need to be a little more lose with the upgrades or make the black holes worthwhile as for now it's just a complete slog.

I've also unlocked most likely every upgrade available in the game as well as most of the blue prints for manufacturing because out of the last tech discoveries I had probably 99.9% were followed by the words "already known" :? . Even the space anomalies which were pretty interesting at first are just rewarding me with crap I already unlocked days ago :P. So really all I have left to do is to reach the center of the universe and learn more of the alien language/history after that it'll just be down to aimless wandering.

I also recommend not trying to be fancy about it. Just charge at them like a crazy person and kill them as quickly as possible. The AI is pretty poorly designed so the pirates have perfect aim, trying to dodge or run (unless you're close enough to boost to a planet or station) is fruitless and the longer combat goes on the more damage you will take since that damage is unavoidable.

I've been enjoying the game, taking it exceedingly slow because I visit most of the planets if not all in every system. It'll be years before I even finish the Altas quest.
