This game looks like it'll be fantastic.
- Amazing aesthetics
- Doesn't seem like a total rehash of Sonic 2 like some other 2D Sonic games are, brand new levels
- Drop-dash looks like a really good addition, it could make Sonic flow even better than the past ones
Pretty much the Sonic 4 we should have gotten years back.

Not to say that Sega hasn't done plenty of letting down as well....
I just hope that the classic levels are more of a supplement to the main game as opposed to being half the game.
What's really weird is that a few days ago I finally got my 32X plugged back in and I was playing Knuckles Chaotix. I was thinking how cool it would have been if they had kept moving forward with that 32 bit aesthetic or dropped the clumsy bungee mechanic. And here comes a game doing just that. Plus it's incorporating some Chaotix elements. The combi-ring powerup and the 3D ring scatter when hit.
And how many picked up on that popcorn machine in the studio level? There actually was a Segasonic popcorn game.

I am still pissed they did not finish releasing the full Sonic 4 game on the Wii. Instead they just teased us with Episode 1.

Yeah, that REALLY pisses me off, even to this day. I wouldn't be
as pissed if the Metal Sonic episode weren't also locked because of the inability to get Episode 2.

So they finally did it, they finally said, "let's Mega Man 9 this shit."
Well I'm on board. Let's see what happens.

I was disappointed to learn today that Sonic Mania will be digital-only. I'll probably give it a download for Playstation 4 (unless an NX version gets announced cause we all know I'm pre-ordering that shit), but I'm butthurt about a lack of physical retail release even if not terribly surprised.

I'm at peace with the fact that physical releases are going to become less and less of a thing, especially for smaller games like this. It might end up on some sort of physical compilation later down the line if we're lucky.
Let's wait and see if the game is any good first.

I'm not surprised in the least that it's digital only, to be honest, but I am saddened too. It is supposed to be a 'smaller', more niche release, although it is funny that they announced the next 'real' Sonic game at the same time and everyone is talking about this instead. I haven't seen many, if any, people really talk about the fact that we're getting a sequel to the Sonic Generations and Sonic Colors games.
Hopefully they do end up doing a physical version further down the line or do a u-turn on that decision.
It would be cool if they throw a load of DLC at it, adding new levels and stuff, and eventually release a physical 'complete' version (actually that wouldn't be 'cool' because I'd throw all my money at the digital release and DLC and then fork out more money for the physical copy - what a sucker I am).
You know what I'd quite like to see? I'd love it if they also did some remixes/reimagined versions of some later Sonic levels. I guess kinda like they did with Sonic Generations, but the opposite - taking more modern Sonic levels and 'Genesis-ising' them.

When they first started showing the teaser footage (I was watching the live stream up until this got announced), I thought they were going to announce like a Sonic Genesis HD or something with Sonic 1/2/3/&Knuckles but remade in the style of Sonic Lost World's 2D levels (which were the only ones worth playing in my opinion).

Woah, wait a moment. Sorry for the off topic here and no offence, but I thought Lost World's 2D levels were rubbish. The parkour mechanics made them really awkward to play and, design wise, they were really poor, with no imagination or creativity behind them.
I thought Lost Worlds was criminally underrated, but it was the 3D levels I thought were decent (at least the ones without excessive gimmicks).
But back on topic, I also thought that was what this was going to be (Sonic 1/2/3&K levels 'remade' with modern graphics/style). I'm glad it's not though. This looks like a much better proposition
