Battlezone is super awesome. I beat it back in 2002, but I still remember so much about it. I wish they'd give Battlezone 2 the suped up treatment.

So, technically part of the same series as the 1980 Atari game?

Yeah, it was a sort of reboot of the old Battlezone from the Atari days. Except with far more awesomeness involved. ;)

That is impossible. The original wire-frame graphics are amazing. I love them, and my favorite pint glass is my black-and-green Battlezone-themed pint glass (followed closely by my Missile Command-themed pint glass).

It's possible, I promise. 1998 Battlezone is seriously awesome stuff. One of the best RTS games I've ever played. Can't believe I forgot to put it in the strategy game thread we just had. :?

Nice, just noticed Battlezone 98 today. Criminally overlooked game. Also the last game to use the MechWarrior 2 engine.

Speaking of MechWarrior 2, is there anywhere to buy that digitally, or is it lost in the ether of various IP rights?

I've still got my (brother's) discs, at any rate. I love the soundtrack to that game, some really good stuff.

The MechWarrior games are stuck in a quagmire of ownership issues. I don't expect we'll see a digital re-release of them in the near future.

There are lots of fan-made tools for getting them going on newer machines out there at least.

I should look into that. Ironically, I never finished them, but I watched my brother play them and beat them a ton. He was really good at them. He's the reason I have such an appreciation for them, Battlezone, and Total Annihilation. :)

Oh, and Magic Carpet 1 & 2. I should really consider snagging them on GOG during the sale.

I've found http://www.mech2.org/ and their MechVM tool useful for playing the MechWarrior 2 games.
