Thanks for that link and especially this Thread to see other points of view. Nice to read all the CRT TV owners. However, the OP at NeoGaf did not seem to like HD CRTs, obvious not knowing the full potential.

I still have three of them. I have a 28inch Magnavox flat tube in my bedroom, my main Sony WEGA Trinitron for my oXBOX (component), PS2/1 (component), Wii/Gamecube (component), Sega Genesis/CD (s-vid modded), Saturn, SNES, NES, N64 and Dreamcast (all these are composite). The other is some off-brand curved tube TVs I use for lightgun games since my others won't play them.

I only have one HDTV a 50 inch 720 plasma. I love my CRTs.

Well, your Sony Tube TV is an HD TV! I also own that same series WEGA with the memory slot. Might have already asked you in another Thread, what is the model number? The HD WEGA supports resolutions up to 720p and 1080i which is everything HD except for 1080p. All of the inputs including multiple RF, Composite, SVideo, Component and DVI/HDMI.



Of note, many of the Sony HD Tubes have a DVI input instead of HDMI. An easy fix with an inexpensive HDMI to DVI adapter plug or cable. Works just fine with HDMI Switch Boxes, but you will need separate audio leads since the WEGA DVI input does not support audio. Give it a shot, to utilize that seldom used input.

When shopping for DVDs I still seek out Full Screen versions.

I rather get the widescreen anamorphic version, even though my preference WEGAs are 4:3. I then set the DVD player to FULL, prefer skinny actors over black bars. I noticed that BluRay movies display many older 4:3 films with black bars on the left and right even on my 4:3 HD CRT; the Bluray discs are coded for widescreen TVs. This is where the DVD version has an advantage.

Count me in for the Trinitron group. HD CRT 27" (with cracked bezel from the buy) with HDMI input. That thing is sweet for tate shmups from my laptop's HDMI (yes, I tate a ~180 lbs. CRT), but now it's getting good use with my Neo Geo.

Have extreme care in this. That heavy CRT does not have the proper supports inside to be sitting sideways; the main cradles are ONLY on the bottom! On top of that, your Bezel is already cracked, the high voltage inside is dangerous should that tube drop inside.

Even my PC monitor is a CRT atm.

Dreamcast + House Of The Dead + LightGun + VGA CRT = 640x480 resolution and the lightgun works!

Good luck to you, Partridge. I have been on the lookout for a Sony Trinitron for years. It finally paid of on Friday. My Trinitron is Model # KV-27FS100. The darn thing weighs ninety-nine pounds, but I'm happy to have it.

I just found a Trinitron on the side of the road when I was leaving work on Friday. You had better believe that I scooped that TV up, cleaner her up nicely, and played some Sonic 2 this weekend.

I have been on the lookout for a Sony Trinitron for years. It finally paid of on Friday. My Trinitron is Model # KV-27FS100. The darn thing weighs ninety-nine pounds, but I'm happy to have it.

Congrats on the beautiful flat tube TV find! SD Tubes are heavy, the HD Tube of the same size is even heavier. Not a big deal once setup, its not like you ever have to move a TV again.

I noticed in other Threads some believe Flat Screen Tubes do not support Lightguns. Not true, the KV-FS series for example are SD Tubes. Sony ESupport has PDF Manuals and Spec Sheets, just key in the model number.

The front Bezel of the TV doesn't indicate a WEGA badge, but the manual says it's a WEGA. I'm glad I got the 27 inch version; the 32 and 36 inch versions would have been too heavy to lift upstairs by myself.

Yeah, I've mostly stopped putting it on it's side. It was a fun thing to do early on when I got it, but it's literally a pain to do on top of being dangerous. Which gives me an idea for a thread...

I have actually passed up on a few FS series TVs due to my preference on the HD CRT WEGAs. However, I discovered the KD series which are listed as SD and have a 1080i tube and built in Digital Tuner! Any Flat Screen Sony CRT be it SD or HD displays beautifully.

You know what I DO love? The audio pass through jacks. I'm going to have a fun time incorporating this TV into my stereo system. My amp and my DVD/CD player are both made by SONY too, so I'm just using a single remote to control the whole shebang.

That analog tuner perfect for the older Atari consoles, you can set it to default power on to channel 3, will automatic video input back to 3 if you are in say composite or component mode when you press the remote channel scroll button. If you need a remote, just check Thrift Stores or the Swap Meet. Many Sony remotes years apart will work just fine.

Agree on the RCA audio output, that is how my Sony TVs are setup for the external stereo amp. Be sure to set the external audio out from Fixed to Variable in the Menu. My Remote controls volume and mute simultaneous to internal speakers and external stereo. This has an advantage of kicking on the stereo for movies or just the TV speakers for the morning news.

Many modern HDTVs use a mini plug jack which kills the internal speakers when plugging in that weak audio connection. Some WEGA TVs even have a THIRD surround sound Speaker built right in! No room for that on modern flat screens. Even if no third speaker, the internal speakers of Wega Tubes are decent inside that nice "Bose Reflect" of the huge CRT housing.

Well i'm officially out when it comes to crt's. I wanted to keep that sanyo I was using until I moved out eventually but mom didn't want it just sitting around and since I got rid of the dresser I don't have anything in my room that could support that weight. Is there any decent crt that would be smaller than that 27" sanyo? I want to at least find one I could place on top of my kallax in my room...
