I recall an interview with William Shatner, he said they had to do the shot multiple times because he kept saying "Bridge on the Captain". I don't know if that makes it any less painful for you but it does for me.Gunstar Green wrote:Kirk and the D go down in the same movie in incredibly stupid, unsatisfying ways. It's just painful.

Yeah, I read all about that from his movie memoirs. It's obvious he was pretty pissed about Generations since he went on to write The Ashes of Eden and create the "Shatnerverse" novel line.strangenova wrote:I recall an interview with William Shatner, he said they had to do the shot multiple times because he kept saying "Bridge on the Captain". Re: New Star Trek Series-Hopes and Dreams
I honestly haven't read too many of the novels, but yeah he was iconic and they shoehorned his death.
So I told my father about the new series coming up and he expressed some concerns towards Alex Kurtzman's involvment. Anyone else share this concern?

Generations best parts was the opening, then nothing but anger inducing cheap deaths of both the mighty ship we all learned to love on TV and the Kirk being not dead, yet finally really dead in the cheapest lamest unlikeliest ways at the end just to slam the door shut on the old crew by wiping out the captain. I still can't tell if I hate that one more than Insurrection as it's damn close.

Re: New Star Trek Series-Hopes and Dreams
To be fair though, if Shatner didn't want Kirk to die a lousy, undignified death he could have done what Nimoy did and skipped out on that turkey.
As for the new show, I guess it'll be set in the Abrahmsverse (if that's what it's called) but on a different ship. Maybe their version of Excelsior or even Voyager? I'd also imagine that it won't be the usual story of the week style TV classic Trek was but will have story arcs running through the season, like a lot of TV these days.

If it is in the Abrahams version of Trek I have no doubt you'll get if not season wide stories as there is precedent for it with ENTERPRISE with season 2 and 3 being long run turkey's that helped kill the show, but it would fit even if it had a few on-going stories along a season too. I'd hope you'd get more of a story a week and the mean season ending tease TNG did all its years though.
You maybe right about Shatner, but also back then he was having more ego problems then as he has no and wanted attention so he could have just figured I'm old, I get a leading role, why not too with it.

Re: New Star Trek Series-Hopes and Dreams
I hadn't even considered the possibility of it going the way of modern tv, what with the draw out series long story arcs. They can be done right, but as Tanooki pointed out it could go the way of enterprise and just drag out unnecessarily.
I doubt it will be in the Abrams verse though. From what I've read they say that this show will not be related to the newer movies in any way.
Edit:link added(according to this link it's going to exist outside all currently established star trek mythos)

Re: New Star Trek Series-Hopes and Dreams
Mind you having just looked at that last link in your post above, I've lost interest. Sorry, but to premiere a show on TV, then make me pay for a video on demand service for a network as shitty at CBS I don't care. That's just wrong. CBS, Amazon Prime/Netflix you definitely are NOT.
Oh well someone will pirate the hell out of it if they do that stunt and it can be caught online anyway. Seems I'm not alone on that reading all the comments on the original announcement of pulling that stunt at varity.com if you scroll to the user comments -- http://variety.com/2015/tv/news/star-tr ... 201631410/

Honestly I don't like the idea either and it will probably kills its ability to score high enough ratings to last for more than a few seasons. But I will get this streaming service if only to watch the new show and then I'll buy it on DVD and hope it moves to regular network for its second season.

Re: New Star Trek Series-Hopes and Dreams
I'm not too concerned about Kurtzman as a producer. I don't think he's going to have a terrible lot of creative input. Bryan Fuller at the helm has me optimistic since not only does he have Trek experience but he tends to care a lot about the projects he works on.strangenova wrote:I honestly haven't read too many of the novels, but yeah he was iconic and they shoehorned his death.

Hindsight is 20/20, it's hard to tell how a movie is going to play until it's finished. He wanted to give Kirk a heroic death and it turned out to be kind of a stupid death.Sload Soap wrote:To be fair though, if Shatner didn't want Kirk to die a lousy, undignified death he could have done what Nimoy did and skipped out on that turkey.

As I said before, it being the Abramsverse is very unlikely because why would CBS want to share merchandising profits when they don't have to? Not to mention Kurtzman got booted from Star Trek Beyond so you've got additional reasons not to base it in that universe there.
I'm hoping they change their mind if their streaming service doesn't take off.strangenova wrote:Honestly I don't like the idea either and it will probably kills its ability to score high enough ratings to last for more than a few seasons.
