or if you're like me and too cheap to afford a proper mastering engineer you just slap a limiter, tape saturation plugin, and an eq curve on the mix bus and call it a day >.>

I am now fully convinced Ziggy knows what's going on. He values vinyl more than me, and that's cool, cause it sounds like he values it from the right place, a place of understanding, and that's awesome. So I fully support this endeavor.

My only suggestion would be, since some folks really love that analog warmth, to modify a few consoles with tube-based amps if recording will happen directly from a console. That would give some nice warmth that vinyl fans will probably love.

I'm interested in the method used to obtain the original audio as well. There was a cool device made a while back that recorded the raw data off an adlib soundcard -the FM chip itself through an LPT printer port to a binary file. I think it was called The Adlib Digisnap. There have been digital audio mods for most major consoles since then I think. If this method is used, the geek-coolness factor is through the roof.

I'm not sure if I'll like the sound of Chiptunes on vinyl, but I'm willing to buy one to see for sure.

As for what I'd like to see on vinyl:
Truxton (I know, it'll never happen)
Rocket Knight Adventures
The Revenge of Shinobi
Gunstar Heroes
Mega Turrican (and other Turricans)
Thunder Force
Mega Man X1-3
Mega Man 7
Gradius III
Contra III
Kirby: Superstar

and of course the usual suspects: Mario, Sonic, Metroid, etc.

I dont think thats Ziggy's guy. They are in West London.

SOR and Shenmue just went up for preorder at 20 pounds a pop, with 10 shipping to the US, so about $80 - to rich for my blood.

So just to update this thread...

The guy I know decided to NOT produce retro game soundtracks under his label. He was working on obtaining rights and whatnot, but there's other labels out there right now doing retro gaming soundtracks. He didn't wanna compete, so he decided to focus on his own thing.

For example...

Another example: http://store.iam8bit.com/products/perfe ... -sountrack

He keeps telling me about releases he hears about. I'll try and post them here, as I find them, if I can remember.
