Love/hate the xbox because mine exploded (kind of) and Microsoft sent me a new one free of charge.

The first year the the Xbox came out, my sister sent us one for a Christmas present. It was thru the Walmart online site. I saw no need for it back then due to owning so many consoles already and did not want to support a system that had a reputation as a PC in a console alluding to PC games I already have. Felt guilt refunding, the shipping of the huge console must have doubled the online price. 
Decades later I bought a used Xbox after researching to ensure it did not have the dreaded poor tracking Thompson or sticking tray Samsung disc reader. Now I have three Xbox consoles with one modded with a large hard drive for installing games and Mame. The Xbox is a killer console from the ease of installing not only commercial games, but all the neat homebrews and especially the emulation. Add in the versatility of playing Mame on the big screen or even a regular SD TV without need of any sort of video adapter (versus a PC). Composite or Component with many games at 480p and higher, take your pick.
Then there are the exclusive games that only saw a PC release. I'm diving thru Pain Killer right now which I think is a better Quake (non arena) style of game with its huge levels to explore. I hunt down for the exclusive games such as Toe Jam & Earl, especially if only on the console and also now search for Xbox games that are only available on the three consoles of the day due to the Xbox version having the best graphics. Well, except for Need For Speed Hot Pursuit 2 due to better game play features on the PS2.
So many great games on the Xbox, the Hard Drive game install and Mame Emulation for the big screen.

One Xbox can play a few titles of an older generation of Xbox games, but not the Xbox One. That means the Xbox 360 is partially the Xbox of the Xbox 360's generation. It should also be noted that one Xbox only played DVDs. One Xbox played DVDs and HD DVDs. One Xbox (Xbox One, that is) can play Blu-Rays in HD and DVDs, but I doubt it plays HD DVDs...

The 360 could play DVDs and HD DVDs (with the HD DVD drive)
The Xbone plays Blurays and DVDs

It kept the cost to you/loss to MS down on the Xbox, though. DVD tech licensing would have cost a fair amount of an already slim margin on each unit sold...Luke wrote:
