Cracking into 4mill territory... Then in an apparent fit of shock leading to madness, I immediately tried to play tag with what was a lonely stray bullet... *sigh*...

The shmups forum hi-score table has been updated, and I'm in a respectable 26th place.
I'm actually not too far behind guys like Erppo and Icarus, who are quality players. I reckon if I hadn't lost that life at the start of Stage 5, then I might have been able to get a couple of million more points...
Finally had a chance to play this a bit last night. Went with the Saturn version, just because I'm on a Saturn kick atm.
Pretty damn rusty, Stage 5 is kicking my ass. Some tips for a scrub clear, since thats really the only way I play Donpatch, scoring is brutal in this game.
- Bombing increases the total amount of bombs you can carry. I think it increases by one slot by using your current total amount of bombs minus 1. So, bombing twice will add a 4th slot, then bombing 3 times will add a 5th, or something like that.
-When you clear each stage, you get additional bombs equal to the number of the stage you just cleared. Clearing Stage 3 will net you 3 bombs, etc.
-Bombing also lowers rank. So, unless you are going for score > clear, it makes sense to bomb at least until you are missing the amount that you will gain upon clearing that stage, as it will both increase your max bomb stock, and lower the rank.
-There is a 1up hidden in Stage 4. You'll come across a giant grey battleship full of turrets and red turtles. You want to kill everything on this ship (Bombing is fine). If you do, destroying the big... thing, at the end of the ship will drop a 1up. I know you can bomb here, but killing this part with the bomb may cancel the 1up, as is standard for a lot of Cave games. Not sure though.
-The Saturn port defaults to an easier-than-normal difficulty, so remember to bump it up to Normal!
Great choice TSTR. Hoping I can bag another clear of this game, and a first clear on the Saturn port.
