Bungie cuts off Destiny owners from existing content for DLC
Re: Bungie cuts off Destiny owners from existing content for
It was pay, it went free. Nice cherrypicking. You're just looking for a fight at this point and I'm not going to play into it. If you want to act like a child do it on your own time. Have fun in your wallet plundering playground.

Dude, let's take a page from the 1980's playbook and take a chill pill. Tanooki, we have talked about this before, but the way you conduct yourself is in a brash and over exaggerated manner, one befitting the headlines of a tabloid newspaper. I get into squabbles with Dsheinem constantly, but this time, I am in agreement with him.
The added ending to Mass Effect 3 was free in response to people's critically negative response to it, much like how Ubisoft is giving people the first big DLC expansion for Assassin's Creed Unity to fans for free, because of the absolute disaster they wrought.
With the DLC argument, you can say, "On-Disc DLC is ripping people off," because it is actually on the disc and you bought the disc. A game where you KNEW DLC was a huge factor in the future of the title and its expansion gives you no right to complain about it. Want to protest? Use your voting power by not purchasing it. Other people enjoy the game (myself not included) and find the price/content ratio fair.
They are not cutting off content in any way.
You can make an argument over the gear upgrade process being poorly planned and what have you, but you can't really say they are gouging you.
Take a deep breath, stop being so defensive. You made a poor joke... and it really was a poor joke about rape and that was not cool. If you can't accept that at least, then shame on you.

That's incorrect. That stuff just got axed and left out of the game instead of revisited later as additional content. You have a set budget and a schedule, things get cut out all the time. Who knows what other types of content we lost from games because of this.Tanooki wrote:Wow good, real mature I'm the asshole and out of my mind for not supporting being squeezed by DLC abuse. Have fun with it, that's your choice. And no, we wouldn't be paying $90 for games now if they didn't do it, we're paying $90 or more now because they are doing it. Look at the stuff not released on console but computer, they seem to get alone just fine in many cases with far cheaper prices with no DLC both small and large projects. It's a factor of greed and bad business model, not necessity.
jmustang: Again that kind of is the bad outdated business model they're using which is squeezing out so many physical releases. They need to re-think how they budget and develop instead of just repeatedly pounding the consumer for more. I'd rather a game not get released then sorta lie, sell it for $60 then grease another $20, $50, $100+ out of people on the back end. What used to be part of a game when it came out now gets put to the size as 'packs' just to supposedly give more to the player when it's just placing back what would have been there a decade earlier. You could a decade ago get a Tiger Woods Golf game with like a couple dozen golfers and all the PGA courses of that year. Now instead EA has put a few golfers and some courses, then they squeezed people for more in individual packages. The press had a field day with that as it in turn made a formerly $50-60 game like a couple hundred bucks which is outrageous.
I have no doubt there is so ill intentioned DLC designed to just milk more money when they could have added it to begin with. However, much of it just wouldn't be there if it wasn't easily able to be added later.

Phantasy Star for the Sega Master System was released in the US in 1988. It was priced at $69.99. It was the most expensive console game released at the time. Adjusting for inflation, the price today would be just over $140. This means that if you bought Phantasy Star BitD, it took the same chunk of value out of your wallet that a $140 game would today.
So, how does Destiny + DLC compare to that calculus?

End of the day, Bungie were extremely open about there DLC model from the start, they even had the price of single DLC's packs up and the season pass, before the game came out.
It did not creep out of nowhere, if you are blindsided by the fact they had paid DLC coming, that is a fault with you, not the developer / industry.
My thoughts pretty much echo Dave's, again read the Wii U thread, we argue and disagree on most things, but in this situation, he has you check mate and you are coming off looking like a total asshole who has no grounds to stand on. Also, don't use the term rape lightly, it makes you come off like a pig.

I hope I'm confused here, but are you guys shitting down this guy's throat because he's mad that one of the game modes got locked because it has DLC maps? Admittedly I don't know anything about this game, but I don't see why it is that unreasonable that someone would be bothered by that.
Couldn't they just easily make it so the DLC maps only go in rotation for people that bought the DLC, but for everyone else they can only play the original maps? Outright locking a game mode under these circumstances makes it look like pretty obvious in-game advertizing. "If you just buy the DLC, you can have fun too!" Perhaps not something that should be punishable by death, but it is certainly under-handed.

There are two sets of weekly events that happen and are in a rotation for people. Now, with the DLC, the DLC has maps that are added to the rotation so, one week in the rotation, non-DLC players can not do the event, because it is on the DLC pack. They can still do the other maps when they pop up on the rotation. It isn't like that is the only thing you can do in the game.brunoafh wrote:I hope I'm confused here, but are you guys shitting down this guy's throat because he's mad that one of the game modes got locked because it has DLC maps? I don't know how easy it is for them to support multiple weeklys or what that would do to the economics of the game. I also don't know how "easily" it could be programmed into the existing structure. For what it is worth, here's Activision's response.brunoafh wrote:Couldn't they just easily make it so the DLC maps only go in rotation for people that bought the DLC, but for everyone else they can only play the original maps?
http://www.gameinformer.com/b/news/arch ... trike.aspx"All existing strikes and maps are still accessible. Specific activities like nightfall will periodically feature expansion 1 content on the week the newest content is live," we were told via email. "New public events, updated weapons and gear, new bounties, and of course the steady stream of updates are all available without additional cost to all players."

Did you guys not buy PS1 games? Those were the cheapest on average even with inflation.
