I can't - I also looked after this was brought up and I find the same thing, just an accepted theorem that "JP version is harder". FWIW, yesterday I played a few runs on both 3 and 4 difficulty, being attentive to number of bullets, speed of bullets, etc and really could not see any discernable differences.

I DECREE - LEVEL 4 DIFFICULTY FOR ALL REGIONS!
Fair enough, I'm good with that
If anyone else is having problems with bad screen tearing, the option for "triple buffering" straightened that right out for me.
Need FreeMCboot? I'll install it on your PS2 Memory Card for free if you cover postage both ways.
Consoles: I have too much stuff
Arcade: No seriously, I have too much stuff. Someone grab a shovel and dig me out of my basement.
So what's going on with this one...not a lot of chatter of scores being posted...
Are people not getting at it yet? Struggling with the game?
Don't be intimidated by any scores - this game has massive scoring potential and while it sounds complicated...it isn't, read the shmups strategy thread but the best way to explain it is:
Ikaruga (polarity elements)
meets
Dragon Blaze (releasing your options on specific enemies)
meets
Blazing Star (holding down to charge a weapon)
For perspective - one guy got 70 mil plus on this game.
In my last personal run where I was near 3 mil, it was a crap run, I entered stage 4 with no x2, x3, etc bonus yet - just was missing level 6 shoes and food - which normally you'll get on stage 1, so only had like 1.6 mil, then right at the start I got those level 6 items, went from x1 to x3 in a hurry, then started piling up some of those 50K treasure boxes and added a mil to my score in about 40 seconds. Scoring possibilities are so huge in this game - just a matter of getting those sets filled out quickly and then learning how to trigger the secret items. Great game.

I sunk like 15+ hours into Jamestown last week so need a bit of a genre decompression. I will get some runs in late this week, but I won't be as active this go round.
Does your new decree about difficulty invalidate Doc's score?

this is the same boat I'm in. I put a lot of time into Jamestown and really loved it. But started reading about scoring in Dimahoo and was getting a headache, so needed to clear my head. Plus Omerta sat out Jamestown so I felt like he'd try extra hard in this one. That said, I do plan to get some runs in this week, but need a bit of a breather.
