Fine, then tell me how you would make a new 2-d Sonic game actually fresh and relevant. Everything I read in the first post of this topic has already been done numerous times. I want Sonic to take its place alongside series like Prince of Persia and Metroid that have successfully evolved and stayed relevant. At some point, every long lasting series MUST evolve. It happened with Resident Evil 4, Tomb Raider Legends, etc. Even 3-d games have to eventually reinvent themselves.opethfan wrote:By that same definition, video games are useless since they serve no useful purpose, other than making us happy. Which, coincidentally, is what 2D Sonics do
We know Sonic works in 2-d. Time for the hedgehog to show us some new tricks. Hell, Sonic's rival Mario has been moving forward in 3-d for awhile. If Sonic is going to stay 2-d, it needs something majorly new, like what Mario's done with the Paper Mario games.
I know this is a retro site, but I also know that lots of people here appreciate games trying new things. Part of the reason many of us avoid many modern games is because there is so little innovation. There's nothing left to do with Sonic in 2-d. Sega already did it all, even coming up with cool ideas like lock on technology and the time travel stuff, but has any 2-d Sonic since Sonic CD brought anything new to the table? I know some of the portable Sonic games have been received positively, but I always hear the same comments, "It's just the same old Sonic. Nothing you haven't seen before".
Sonic in 2-d is done. Time to move on. Unless, they want to give us Paper Sonic, which I don't think would work at all.
