It's also worth noting that parts 1 & 2 (or at least the two versions I own) both came with walkthroughs. Part 2 had a map as well. Very cool and helpful.

After finally playing the first game, I can say I missed little jumping straight to the second game.
It was great in a role playing sense, but the combat just didn't work for me. I'm not much of a fan of click to attack, so it just dragged for me.
I still wonder what could have been if they had created the console version of the first game... There's a rumor that says they plan to release the first two on PS4 and Xbone, but I and the majority highly doubt it.

played a bit of the first game tonight finally. Impressive. And man, the mouse is far more intuitive than I'd expected. Basically just hitting Space to pause, and everything else is mouse and it's good. I *might* not need to bother w/ a controller profile for this one. Weird.

The controller profile are really tricky and confusing for Witcher 1, so watch it if you go that route.

I am really impressed how intuitive the mouse alone is.

I'm now a couple of hours into Witcher 2 on my PC and hope to move through it in the next week or so if it hold my attention.
So far it's..."ok".
I am
and I don't find the story to be that compelling as of yet. The UI/combat is really quite clunky (should I switch to gamepad controls?). It looks gorgeous at maxed out settings, though!
How far into the game would you say that it "gets good"? Is the appeal for most more in the story or the gameplay?

People play Witcher games for the graphics.dsheinem wrote:Is the appeal for most more in the story or the gameplay?
If you want to beat Witcher 2, HLTB says you're looking at about 25 hours for the main story. If it's already boring you, that's not a good sign.
PLAY KING'S FIELD.

The combat gets better once you figure out the flow of it; it took me through about Chapter 1 to really be comfortable with the combat, at once I reached that point things were fine (using mouse & keyboard).
Storywise things pick up in the first chapter as that introduces the big conflict that continues through the game; the prologue is basically there to set up the events that get your journey started.
I'd say the larger appeal is the exploration of the world and the story. You'll become used to the combat but it never turns into "ooo yeah, I get to fight stuff" like an action game such as God of War would get like.

Really? I don't think so. It's just a nice side point.Exhuminator wrote: People play Witcher games for the graphics.
If you find the controls clunky you should try the 360 controls. I prefer them to the keyboard and mouse anyway.dsheinem wrote:I'm now a couple of hours into Witcher 2 on my PC and hope to move through it in the next week or so if it hold my attention.

The second game is designed for a gamepad, no question. I don't know how anybody played it with a M+KB. I believe most ARPGs of this style are better played on controller though, so I might have a skewed view.
Storywise, whether or not you find it compelling can be odd until you get a bit further. I had a certain character I got really attached to, so it got compelling from that point on.
