I can't really decide....both are great depending on execution. One of my big issues with random is that some games put way too many random encounters in there. When you get stopped every 5-6 blocks for a battle it gets a little annoying...Open encounters is nice, it's especially fun in ys I & II on my psv. It's a nice change to see both intermittently to both. What would be nice is to have a combination of the two in games. On world maps do random, and in dungeons visible. The encounter rate is what ruins both to me if it's too high or too low though...
