This is precisely the type of list no one will ever really agree on, so it's impossible to convince others of X games should be on/off that list. I'm certainly not interested in trying to cook up a list of 1000 games for people to play, I'd be burnt out after just making a top 25 list.

We all have biases (I hate Mirror's Edge, for instance :P ). However, I find the vast majority of that list is appalling and non-essential. The fighting games (for instance), are just arbitrarily added... They seriously are suggesting we play Tekken 1 and Tekken 3 over Tekken Tag 1 and Tekken 5:DR (the two most played and celebrated tekken entries)?. Soulcalibur 1 for DC which changed the game on 3D fighters and made people realize console>arcade is left off... SF2T HD remix was an abomination and CVS2 (CVS1 was added over this?) was left off? MK1 is on but UMK3 and MK2 are off? List is just arbitrary as hell, is the point I was trying to make.

God, i don't wanna go down the fox hole of listing games that should be on there. I will instead just do what I can to influence and support my local gaming scene within my sphere of influence, and hope that they spread word on games I suggested they felt are great after playing them, not after being told about how great they are.

Oh and one last thing, any list with Twinkle Star Sprites left off of it, is no list that deserves praise. :)

Huh, I thought it was 1001, but there are apparently only 999 on the list?

And I've played ~400, though a lot of the choices were a bit surprising, like the many sequels, expansions, and spinoffs on there. Why GTA4 and then the two expansions as separate entries? And I'd love to know the reasoning behind some of the choices, but I suppose that's up to whomever wrote the book.

I checked the entire book and there are only 999 entries, possibly because they put stuff like zelda seasons and ages in the same entry.

what a random list. I had 537 checked as played, but some of those were games I tried just for a bit because they often make these lists and I was curious...but not enough to play through to the end.

I agree. Some of the choices are quite bizarre.

I scored 475, BTW. (The fact that, until recently, I essentially sat out the last console generation combined with the fact that I have always sat out PC games, killed my score.) I am certain to have beaten far fewer than that number.

Yeah, I had 311, but many were games I haven't played much past the very beginning.

Some things that baffle me:

BoF II?
Mega Man 9?
Every GTA entry?
Out Zone?

I'm not saying those aren't decent - great games, but MM9 is the only Mega Man game on the list, and Out Zone made the list as the only Toaplan game? Howz'at now?

Seems to me like the author just picked an arbitrary number that sounded impressive and struggled to fill the list out once he exhausted is personal favorites and areas of expertise.

the "author" is like 10 people.

Also I don't know if this makes any difference, but I'm pretty sure the book is penned by folks from Europe. So perhaps that accounts for some titles that weren't as popular in the US? Not sure.
