Even though i always wish that Sega still made hardware, i wouldn't want them to get back into the hardware business for mainly two reasons.

1st- IMO i think this next console generation will be the last console generation. At least what we consider a "traditional" console. In 8 to 10 years i think most content will be digital. Most games will be accessed through a service(like steam). Now i could be totally wrong on this, but that's where i see the industry is headed.

2nd- And the most important reason was already said.

Jmenglan hit the nail right on the head, Sega is nothing like it was from the 90's. With the exception of Atlus, they don't have the talent to make good first party titles anymore.(Well neither does Microsoft, but they have lots of money and just buy exclusives :P )

I wish old school Sega never went out of business and was still making hardware. But the reality is there not, and most likely they never will.

It will just continue to be a dream(tear).

I dont own any system past the original Xbox. I barely follow the console an software trends so correct me if im wrong. Seems like today the console software is owned by a few games. The Modern Warfare's and a few other handful of titles. It seems then everyone is fighting for the scraps. I do agree this isnt the same Sega as before. Im guessing theres only a few of those people left behind. This doesnt mean that they cant get back some of those people and find new creative people. They sitll have a vast catalogue that they can pull from. Having said that Sega doesnt have the financial resources, the brand awarness etc. For them to even attempt this they would need to partner up with another larger company. Anything else and it might be another still born Atari Jaguar. No one else more than me wants a Dreamcast 2. I have one under the living room and in my bedroom. It never did stop thinking for me. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rqyEhVwl2MI

It just wouldn't be the same old Sega. Better to leave it be.

Well, I'm going against the grain on this and going with a simple, "Yes".

Why the hell wouldn't I want to see Sega return to the console scene? We need more unique consoles out there like it used to be. And Sega consoles always had a very distinct feel to them.

It's true that the same people are not longer at Sega, like has been said. But why wouldn't you want to see them give it another try with new people rather than not try at all?

Ugh I really would want one. Microsoft is such a Juggernaut and I have to assume the PS will take 2nd place. Just dont see a place at least right now in the traditional console role for Sega.

It always seemed to me that the whole Dreamcast 2 thing is more of a tongue-in-cheek fond look-back of how gaming was with the Dreamcast and Sega in general when it was relatively new, rather than actually wanting hardware from Sega now.

As for titles; bringing out Shenmue 3, Jet Grind Radio sequel, another Space Channel 5, Sonic Adventure 3, Blue Stinger 2 (lol) and whatever else would define a Dreamcast 2 IMO. Obviously today those aren't going to happen, so unless Sega from the 90s magically comes back and comes up with something new and amazing, a new console would just be another generic one with cross-platform games for it to throw in the pile.
