Interesting. I didn't realize how old this game was - Atari 8-bit and C64 versions came out in 1983.
My local game store has the NES port, I may just have to pick it up.

The competitive mode reminds me of something similar, though here you're attempting to outdo each other through score as opposed to points. But there is a co-op mode as well to see how high of a score you can get overall.

How the hell can't you get Settlers of Catan to the table? I played The Republic of Rome (5 Players, 8 hours, 40 page manual) last week!
I don't see many similarities between it and MULE, though. However, there's a boardgame remake of sorts called Planet Steam I want to try out.
