I'm just not a fan of Summer Glau. She's not a very good actress. She seems to have the same mannerisms no matter what role she's in. I loved Firefly, but Summer, as River, did nothing for me. Sure, she's hot and all I guess, but she's not so much acting as muddling through with a perpetual dour deadpan.

I don't know about that. She shows some good acting chops in the movie Serenity. Off the top of my head, there's a scene in there where she breaks down and cries in front of Simon that is impressive. She just looks at him with this perfect facial expression. River Tam is not an easy character to play. She has such a range from vulnerable to strong to cute to intimidating to pensive to just plain crazy. I think Summer did a good job. I can't really picture anyone else playing the part

I actually consider her a well rounded actress because she is also really good at handling physically demanding parts. She did much of the action scenes in Serenity herself. She has a history of dance training I believe.

She's still young though. Plenty of time to improve as an actress over time, but I think she's pretty good right now.

Hard for me to be unbiased though I suppose. I loved every character's portrayal on Firefly/Serenity. I'm a bit of a Whedon geek

I wasn't fond of Whedon's earlier stuff, but Firefly was akin to genius. Still, I wasn't impressed with Summer Glau or Adam Baldwin. Everyone else was pretty darn impressive, however, especially Jewel Staite . I was sorry to see her lose weight after the series. She looked better with the extra softness. Much more down-to-earth.

'Joss Whedon's early stuff'
You know, he was a story director on Roseanne, which I know is not the most popular show in the world anymore, but I think it's good stuff. Considering how much better the early seasons are compared to the later seasons, I'd say Joss Whedon was doing a decent job even back then, personally.

I believe this was due to Joss. He wanted that character to look down-to-earth and real and made that clear early on. So she had to have that look for the series.

I love the ballsy stuff he did with Firefly. The way they shot everything would later be done in the new Battlestar Galactica, and I'm intrigued by his decision to make a world where people speak english and chinese, and actually revere prostitutes as high society. Damn you Fox, you better not cancel Dollhouse too, assuming it even gets off the ground with this strike.

Yeah, that show was a big success. His father was involved in tv, so it's only natural Joss would have a knack for it. I don't know if Buffy falls under his "earlier stuff", but that show was and still is brilliant. I still compare many genre shows to it today, and many of them don't measure up(Heroes, Smallville, what I've seen of Supernatural). Seems like the closest thing I've found to Buffy was Veronica Mars, but that was a very different kind of show and brilliant in its own way

Saw the season finale tonight. I thought it was pretty cool. I like how they've worked the Reese family into the storyline. I love how we've seen a little bit of everyone's badass side now. Sarah, Derick, and of course Cameron. John Connor is becoming an important part of every mission and he's starting to truly show some leadership ability. The show is developing some semblance of a plot, and we're getting some nice character moments and some genuine emotion in the story. They're really not dancing around the time travel stuff either. They're handling it confidently. It's a pretty solid show.

I hope they pick this up for a second season. This one was too short for obvious reasons.
