Re: Roger Ebert is dead
I've been at a loss for words since the news of Ebert's death broke. To be quite honest, it's still sinking in that he is gone.
Reading and watching Roger Ebert's reviews has been a habit of mine since I was a kid growing up in Chicago. "At The Movies" was one of my favorite shows, if only to get the sneak peeks of new movies that I was dying to see. And when my Father would come home from work, I would usually ask if he saw Roger at lunch (they both went to the same bar for drinks at lunch. It was common back then). Certainly not everyone in Chicago agreed with Ebert's reviews, but everyone seemed to love him anyway.
Roger was one hell of a person. A master at his craft, very open-minded, a gracious philanthropist, a loving husband, and a savvy businessman as well. His reviews would cause you to get emotional, but more importantly, his reviews made you think. I am going to miss him dearly, and no one can take his place.
I'd like to leave this on a positive note, so check out Ebert and Siskel owning Howard Stern:
It heats up in part 2.

I remember seeing this years ago and liking it quite a bit then. Thanks for reminding me of it.Luke wrote:

I always found it fascinating that Siskel and Ebert would rip each other apart, but would defend the others opinion when questioned by an outsider. They were like to brothers who hated each other, but protected each other like family. And "hate" is too strong of a word, as they did highly respect one another (I believe Siskel was Roger's best man at his and Chaz's wedding), but the analogy fits.
I'm glad he and his family are no longer suffering, but it is a hard pill for me to swallow that he's gone at the age of 70. Back to being positive, how awesome is it that he wrote his own eulogy? Answer = Very.

When Ebert loved movies, he loved them with a passion. But when he hated them... god help you.
Here are 40 of his most hilarious burns to bad movies. Nobody could slam a shit film like Ebert.

YOUR MOVIE SUCKS by Evert is a book you can read a dozen times and not get tired of.
I've been seeing a lot of "10 scathing Ebert Reviews" pop up all over the Internet, and they miss one of my favorite Ebert quotes: "This movie's heart is in the right place, but it lacks a brain".
His "Great Films" and "4 Star Reviews" are just as entertaining to read.
Re: Roger Ebert is dead
His book "I Hated hated hates this movie" is great, but I also recommend tracking down a copy of his movie glossary, like can be found here:

I only know this guy because two of his statements (video games can never be art and Freddy Got Fingered is horrible) so I guess I'm not a fan of his work, as I disagree with both of those statements.

The saddest thing about the game fiasco is that it was unusually dumb for him.
