4.2 isn't horrible, and 4.1 is a move in the right direction. I feel that Sonic Team was "back" with Generations, as it has the best 2D platforming since the Genesis days, hands down. 4.1. and 4.2 are interesting steps along the way and are far from atrocious, especially compared to everything Sonic-related from the Saturn up until then.Menegrothx wrote:Anachronox?J T wrote:JRPGs on PC.![]()

I hear ya. It's SUPERMAN, for God's sake. Why is it so hard to make him a worthwhile game?Gamerforlife wrote:A GOOD Superman game
I would love to see a sequel to Vagrant Story, something with a new plot but a modern take on the battle system.

There will never be a good Superman game. Superman is too powerful to translate into video games. For crying out loud, 10 punches from random thugs should not "kill" Superman.SteveyMajors wrote:I hear ya. It's SUPERMAN, for God's sake. Good point. But there's gotta be some way around this.o.pwuaioc wrote:There will never be a good Superman game. Superman is too powerful to translate into video games. I've got it - all of the bad guys have boxing gloves made out of kryptonite for some reason! You can build a plot around that.

Crystalis 2
Man I loved the first game. This has to be one of the most underrated games of all-time and the game most deserving of a sequel that never got one. It was basically the NES Legend of Zelda, but better: Better graphics, bigger world, more NPCs and towns, more RPG elements, etc.

Re: Games that don't exist but you wish did
The issue with Superman is that, while he is incredibly powerful, he cannot be everywhere at once. Accordingly, the most threatening scenarios for him are the ones where the villain has simultaneously launched a nuclear warhead at Metropolis and placed Louis Lane in a deathtrap. (Also, a kitten is stuck in a tree.) Superman can easily stop the missile from hitting Metropolis or save Louis Lane (or save the kitten)...but it will be bery hard for him to do everything. I think that a Superman game that played off of this "weakness" (i.e., there is just too much bad stuff going on all at once for even Superman to stop all of it) and added in some very hard-hitting boss fights would be very enjoyable and do justice to the Man of Steel.SteveyMajors wrote: Good point. Cool! Suddenly my kryptonite boxing gloves idea just seems silly.prfsnl_gmr wrote:The issue with Superman is that, while he is incredibly powerful, he cannot be everywhere at once. Wasn't there that Superman Returns game in which Metropolis itself had a life bar? Seems similar to your idea.prfsnl_gmr wrote:The issue with Superman is that, while he is incredibly powerful, he cannot be everywhere at once. Still I'd also love to see someone tackle a good modern Superman game. It'd be a unique design challenge, if nothing else.

It sounds similar, but I think that games have come a long way from Superman Returns was released in 2006. (I also heard that the game was terrible.)AppleQueso wrote: Wasn't there that Superman Returns game in which Metropolis itself had a life bar? Seems similar to your idea.

In any event, I also think that it would be an interesting design challenge. The game would give the player all of these tremendous powers at the beginning, provide them with a few "missions" to warm up, and then really start throwing "choices" at them in pretty rapid succession. While it would be possible for Superman to save everything, doing so would require the player to essentially speed-run different parts of the game. I also think we have the technology now to make Superman's "choices" really matter within the game world. For example, if you saved Metropolis rather than Louis Lane, you would receive different "missions" later in the game. The game could also throw some unexpected challenges at you while you were in the middle of mission - such as spontaneous bank robberies, etc. - that would throw a wrench into even the best laid plans. In sum, it would really give you the feeling of having the ability to solve all of Metropolis's problems...but not the time to do so.
Finally, any good Superman game would require you to spend some time as Clark Kent...if for no other reason than replicating the stress of finding a private place to change clothes during a catastrophe. (Also...the game should throw in some "hidden" incredibly difficult boss battles that require creative uses of Superman's powers...that would make it perfect.)
