How's the MD treating you, Spyke?
Also, feel like trading Hellfire carts? The top of the label on my complete copy is a little messed up, and I've been too lazy to fix it.

Heh - I'm glad someone asked me that! It gives me an excuse to gush! ;)

The Megadrive was my first ever games console back in the day. Had an Asian one and played loads of imported games over a few years before getting rid of it and getting a Playstation. Since then I've had another one and sold it too, and now I'm on my third one - and I'm gonna keep it FOREVER!

Putting the Hellfire cart in and firing up took me back to 1990 instantly! Wow! Felt so cool playing that old game again.

The console has a switchless full region and Hz modification, with widened cart slot so it will play anything from anywhere in RGB SCART.

I'd forgotten that the console runs silently. I'm so used to the hum and whine of disc-readers in the background! Also I have it hooked up to my modern Logitec Z535 speakers (which didn't exist back in the day) so the sound coming out is awesomely clear and crisp too.

I've fallen in love with Megadrive again. Have bought a copy of Gaiares (another blast from the past) and am keeping my eyes open for the Thunderforce games. Is it just me or did the old games have better tunes? (Not necessarily sound quality but just better tunes?) And of course, no waiting for discs to read either!

As for swapping carts... er, no I don't think so, thank you!

Yeah, there's way too much to love about the MD/GEN/cartridge consoles.
Genesis was my first console as well. Nothing beats that classic, crunchy sound from the MD.
The limitations on instruments and things definitely brought out some high quality jams in the 8 and 16 bit eras. I was listening to a podcast that was recommended to me by noise a while ago that attributed it to less emphasis on melodies in more modern games, and I thought that seemed a pretty accurate assessment.

The ASCII stick is far superior to the Saitek one!
Heavy metallic base, buttons with very short travel, good stick that's not too stiff (no microswitches though but works fine) and heavier build quality all round.

Can't believe I got this in 2 days flat off an ebay seller... a few days before Christmas!

No need for a picture - it's the same as Aaron's above.

I think you mean "not enough" instead of "way too much". :)

Really? You find them lacking in great qualities?

No, I mean the Genesis needs more love. As in it doesn't get enough. Your phrase makes it sound like the Genesis gets TOO MUCH love and that it should get less attention.

I friggin' love the Genesis!

Oh, no. I agree with you, there's a disproportionate amount of love for Nintendo consoles born purely out of ignorance of other consoles from the 80s and 90s.

What I meant before was that the Genesis (and the cartridge medium) have so many fantastic things about them that it would be difficult to put them in a succinct list. (Or something to that effect.)

From Sega enthusiasts and fanatics, it does indeed get too much love. Although somehow that love doesn't seep out into the general populace, who are still gaga over either Nintendo nostalgia or the current FPS craze.
