Aliens vs Predator on the PC/360/PS3 scored alot of 5's and 6's and its a very awesome game imo, im still getting Colonial Marines despite what anyone says.
"very awesome" is an overstatement I think. Enjoyable for the $15 I paid? Sure. For $50-$60? No. It had its moments, though, I agree. It was reviewed well enough, at about a 7/10 (http://www.metacritic.com/game/pc/aliens-vs-predator). As a fan of the series I'd probably bump it to 8/10, myself. The new one is getting a lot of 4/10, 5/10 etc. so far...
Think it will need sometime to settle in, people jump to conclusions to fast.

I'll hold judgement till I play it a bit or watch some videos of it.

Even if it fails, there's Natural Selection 2, which covers the multiplayer hole left by the old AvP games quite nicely.

I am not "jumping to conclusions," but I am no longer interested in buying the game at full price on release day until I read something to make me think the game is maybe worth my time and money...

that one is FAR out of line with almost every other...

^Eurogamer, a site I put a lot of credence in...a 3/10!
It's shocking stuff, certainly one of the most glitchy mainstream releases of this hardware generation, and the sort of thing that would barely pass muster as a low budget game from 2002. That it comes from Gearbox, a developer with considerable talent and experience, is bewildering. The studio behind Borderlands, one of the freshest and most elegantly structured shooters of the last decade, spent five years making a basic meat-and-potatoes corridor shooter and this is all it could come up with? It's hard not to think of Duke Nukem Forever, that other long-delayed FPS that fell into Gearbox's hands, and the comparison isn't favourable...you could experience much the same thrills in the multiplayer of 2010's Aliens vs Predator - a game that was equally bland but at least had a working engine.

It all comes back to that engine, and it's the pneumatic jaw in the soft squishy skull of a game that feels more like a weary contractual obligation than a chance to immerse yourself in one of the most beloved franchises around. Even if it were polished to an acceptable, 2013-standard AAA shine, Colonial Marines would still only be a generic effort coasting on borrowed iconography. Weighed down by so many grindingly obvious mechanical issues, it never even gets off the ground. For a game all about exterminating bugs, it's a fatal irony.
yeesh!

that's half the score they gave the decent 2010 game: http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/alien ... 010-review

and Kotaku:
http://kotaku.com/5983463/aliens-coloni ... aku-review

A game based on existing media has three options. It can strive to be faithful to the original work, privileging authenticity above all else. It can try to do its own thing, using the original work as merely a jumping off point for something else. Or, it can try to find a balance between authenticity and originality. Aliens: Colonial Marines fails spectacularly at all three of these possible approaches.

That's a lot of words. Let's cut to the chase: Aliens: Colonial Marines is an awful game.

There is nothing redeeming about Aliens: Colonial Marines, unless you count the inevitable relief you might feel once it's over.

I wonder what the punk(s) at EGM were smoking

Oh well, I reckon this will become ten bucks soon enough. The trend of oft-delayed projects turning out tosh continues.

So basically avoid this game until it hits a "Everything under $10!" bargain bin?

Wow, scratch this one. Gearbox, what on earth were you thinking, outsourcing the development but still having the gall to put your stamp on it? I had high hopes, but looks like they ran this one into the ground. Thanks, but no thanks.

So, seems like even if you like it, it's not a very good game. That's a shame.

Back to Natural Selection 2 then.
