Some may think that the biblical end times may have already started.

People who say they've just started recently haven't read the Bible. The end times began the moment Jesus left the earth.

You know, this is just an interpretation. There are multiple ways to read the Bible. Heck, even using the Apocalypse of John for the "end times" is very bad theology since its genre, unbeknownst to later Christians, wasn't meant to be read as a predictive text, but a "secret". καλύπτειν means "to hide", thus ἀποκάλυψις is an uncovering, and is meant to be figured out; none of it is meant to be taken literal. Rather, it's a secret because what it actually advocated is revolutionary change - the antichrist is actually Nero (whose name in gematria comes out to 666).

The end times mythos, including rapture, is a modern twist on some precarious passages.

I don't give the 2012 stuff any credit. The Mayans just decided to stop their calendar there, that's all. Why should anyone think that a primitive Indian tribe would know the date the world ends?
