I've never encountered a disc that hasn't allowed me to install it on the proprietary hard disk or a USB storage device.ninjainspandex wrote:it does baffle me how new xbox's have 320gb hard drives and not many games have an install to hard drive option... wtf am i supposed to do with all this space.MrPopo wrote:Yeah... the 360 doesn't work that way. You're thinking of PCs.elmagicochrisg wrote:Sure, they'll make you switch discs every 5 seconds instead of installing the whole game on your HDD.
That makes sense...![]()
Install game on HDD. Use disc one to boot game. Done.
Or...
Install content disc on HDD. Use game disc to play game. Done.
See how hard that was?...

I think he's talking about a real "install to hard drive" feature, not a "copy the disc iso" option currently on the 360.

nope im just dumb, but im not sure if this feature helps with multi disc games. does it prompt you to insert disc 2 into the install, and then never have to change the disk during play?MrPopo wrote:I think he's talking about a real "install to hard drive" feature, not a "copy the disc iso" option currently on the 360.

Re: Will GTA V fit on one disc on the xbox 360?
The way it works today is you essentially copy the ISO onto your 360's HDD for the data, but the 360 still requires the actual disc in the drive. So if you're playing Lost Odyssey and pre-installed all four discs, when you get to the disc 2 section you have to swap out disc 1 for disc 2 in the physical drive.ninjainspandex wrote:nope im just dumb, but im not sure if this feature helps with multi disc games. does it prompt you to insert disc 2 into the install, and then never have to change the disk during play?MrPopo wrote:I think he's talking about a real "install to hard drive" feature, not a "copy the disc iso" option currently on the 360.

after doing some research im guessing rockstar will probably have to do what forza 3 did and have a second disc thats only for texture data that you install then you never have to switch your first disc. im guessing people who dont have HDD will bitch and moan but seriously if you cant afford a 20gb HDD now days how the heck are you affording to buy a brand new game anyhow

Re: Will GTA V fit on one disc on the xbox 360?
The cheapest 20 GB HDD I saw on Amazon was the same cost as a brand new game. So you can get one or the other. By contrast, if I had a PS3 I could get 4x the HDD for twice the price, since it uses a standard 2.5" HDD.ninjainspandex wrote: but seriously if you cant afford a 20gb HDD now days how the heck are you affording to buy a brand new game anyhow

Microsoft ought to up the allowed USB allocation from 16GB to 32GB, especially since newer discs store more than 8GB.

I can honestly see Rockstar making GTA5 do something new for the 360. I can see it coming on like 3 or even 4 discs, and as someone already mentioned, loading the game assets to the HDD, and then using a "play" disc for the rest. This would be the way to do it, and I'll bet money it's what they do.
The big question is, how will Nintendo do this with the Wii-U? I guess just not have these types of games for it? I feel like Nintendo may be failing before it starts. Similar to what happened with the Dreamcast. And we all know that if the Dreamcast had had a fighting chance, Sega might not have went under in the hardware market.
