Next round of consoles I expect to pretty much give you smart TV functionality without needing a smart TV.

I mean they're kinda already like that in a lot of ways anyway. I've never quite understood why some people have a problem with it. I'm not bothered if the Ps4 is just as capable a media center as it is a game console, for example.

As people have said before, depending on how you look at it, consoles -- as game machines exclusively -- have already died.

The question then is: Why is this a problem? What is inherently bad about a multipurpose machine?

Modern cartoons are horrible and you should feel ashamed about watching them

Nothing, it's awesome. Having a system clutter up the living room for one thing only is not very enticing for the average consumer.

As I've said before, I even wish proprietary machines would cease to exist altogether, but we can't always have what we wish for, can we?

Comparing the experience of playing Angry Birds to playing a game like Super Mario Galaxy is impossible - they're two completely different gaming experiences, and I don't mean genre-wise. If I want to waste twenty minutes on the bus, sure, I'll play Angry Birds or Tetris, but if I want a substantial, rewarding gaming experience, I'm going to a console every single time.

People who can't appreciate Tetris make me sad.
