LOL! This thread is kind of ridiculous. He seems like just another obsessed gamer nerd like most of us here. Perhaps you have some projected self-loathing or something? (Sorry, psychology... I study it). :P

I do generally think it's kind of weird that people become internet famous for this kind of stuff (though I didn't know of Pete Dorr before this thread) because these kinds of people are just glorified consumers. They go around, buy stuff, unbox stuff, display stuff, and maybe once and awhile actually play their games. I guess when you're already addicted to shopping for games, you can get your fix by vicariously watching someone else buy crap and open it. I guess... I don't know... even with my psychology training, I'm still not sure I can understand what motivates people to watch unboxing videos. They are about as boring as cardboard to me.

That might be because often they are cardboard, JT.

Ya know, my thoughts are a bit conflicted because I enjoy reading the "look what I got!" thread here on Racketboy. I love seeing people score rare finds, and checking out whatever obscure 1978-era Mattel handhelds CRT managed to score at a swap meet.

But I think that has to do with the fact that I like you Racketboy dudes, and consider you my friends. Thus when I see something cool on the video game finds thread I think "Hell yeah, good for him!" But when I see a video of a dude smugly open a Casio Loopy/PC-FX/whatever, while his camera is strategy positioned in front of his massive collection of rare games (some still sealed for "collecting purposes" of course), I tend to think "What an ass!"

That said, Pete Dorr is probably the "best of the unboxers". Some people are downright insufferable.

aside from the guy needing a haircut and a shave (what is he going for there? a hippie type of look? :P ) he seems a nice person. His vids are a little boring, but rather that than some a-hole throwing out f-bombs to get attention. Dorr's ok in my book.
