Hobbies other than gaming?

Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

I read comics (mostly Buffy, Spider-man, and Hack/Slash), and really enjoy making short films. I'm still learning the craft, but enjoy seeing the progress I've made so far. I hope to make my first feature-length soon enough - probably a slasher.

Nice! This is something I've always wanted to do. But I don't think I could handle bombing. Maybe one day I'll give it a shot, I know everyone sucks their first time up.

Industrial metal? You can't argue that Skinny Puppy doesn't completely rage sometimes.

Not everyone sucks with their first performance, and there are ways to avoid bombing by researching the venue. Quick adivce:

Get on stage and try it. Find a local University or club that has an open mic, comedy only. One way to avoid bombing is making sure you don't attend an open mic where you follow a banjo solo.

Write a three minute set, open and end strong. Be either yourself or some wacky character/real or fake. Treat your first joke as almost a handshake to dozens of people you don't know and can't see (I still hate that you can't see the crowd through the spotlight) and if they laugh you're in the clear.

lots of other hobbies too. We all have similar likes too, as I go through the thread.

I love fleamarkets. Theres two on my way to work, and I'm there practically every day. And in mexicali theres even more local fleamarkets. I'm always looking for cool, interesting and cheap stuff.

I also collect lp records. From jazz to metal and everything in between.

I also like collecting books, have lots on science, history and occult.

like everyone here I also like lots of types of music. I'm always picking up cds and the like. I like most all types of music. But lately the past few years I've been into electronic music.

I also have lots of transformers, and action figures.

I'm starting my blu-ray collection, and I have lots and lots of dvds. I've seen most of them but my backlog is creeping up.

I used to collect comics religiously, but I stopped. My comics store near me closed a few years back. I like to physically buy them, the whole comic store experience. So I dont buy them online.

Same thing with manga. I have lots of volumes that I've collected, but hardly any recently. Its easier to download them and read them from my computer.

I wish I had more time!

Sports!
I am extremely passionate about soccer. I play it as often as I can--I usually play in the summer months when there's less going on with work. That and I'm getting older, so I need to be conscious about injury with a physical sport.

I coached youth soccer in the past--I need to find our local leagues since our last move so I can coach more.

I watch soccer religiously. I am a big Arsenal fan, and love DC United and New York Red Bulls.

I love to run. I've ran three marathons, and I'd like to run more--my dream is to qualify for Boston, but I still need to trim my time about 35 minutes. :)

I like to read from time to time--though I usually do it to help me fall asleep when there's lots on my mind.

Love cooking most of the time--Indian, Thai, and Mexican food is my favorite to cook!

I'm a pro wrestling fan. It's probably the only hobby I'm almost as hardcore about as gaming. I watch all three promotions (Ring of Honor, TNA, WWE), which is REALLY hard to keep up with especially with WWE saturated us with far too much programming every week. I also am at least vaguely aware of the various indie promotions like Dragon Gate, New Japan Pro Wrestling, etc. though I don't keep up with them. I'm not an encyclopedia of wrestling knowledge, but I certainly have a more than casual interest. Though there were periods of my life when I wasn't following pro wrestling, it has been a part of the majority of my life from childhood to adulthood

I like comic books, but I'm something of a casual fan. I mostly keep up with Bat titles, Fables and Buffy related books and I've been reading some of The Walking Dead. My favorite series at the moment is Angel & Faith. I haven't read anything Marvel since my college days when I was into Spider-Man, X-Men, Wolverine and Deadpool. I want to read more comics and get more into the hobby, but I've no time and money for it. Gaming really pushes a lot of my other hobbies back.

I'm kind of into metal. I'm in this weird sort of middle ground between casual metal fan and hardcore metalhead. I don't keep up with everything in metal because I have rather specific tastes. I tend to only like certain bands and styles and everything else just doesn't appeal to me. Aside from metal, I'm generally interested in indie music, good electronic music, chiptunes, generally anything that is not mainstream. I never got into rap or hip hop though. It's not that I hate those genres, they just don't appeal to me much

I like Sci Fi and genre TV. I try to keep up with that stuff so I watch shows like Fringe, Revolution, Supernatural, Doctor Who, etc. I generally am also interested in any noteworthy show regardless of genre, so I also watch stuff like The Wire, Breaking Bad, Friday Night Lights, etc. just because they are so acclaimed. I enjoy good TV, but again, gaming makes it hard to watch as much as I'd like. It takes priority over everything. I don't watch TV casually. Stuff like reality TV, competition shows, etc. don't appeal to me. I just want to watch whatever is smart and getting lots critical buzz.

Movies I watch when I can find the time. I like mostly action, Sci Fi, comic book movies, Hong Kong martial arts movies or any Asian action movies, comedies, etc. Anything that gets good reviews will grab my attention really and like most of my hobbies I gravitate more towards geeky/nerdy stuff or non-mainstream stuff.

I'm a big Joss Whedon fan. I religiously follow most of the stuff he does though I haven't seen Cabin in the Woods yet and have yet to read his X-Men comics. However, I have watched Buffy, Angel, Firefly, Dr Horrible's Sing a long Blog, Dollhouse and read the current Buffy/Angel & Faith comics as well as Fray. I actually started watching Veronica Mars just because I heard Joss was a fan
