The biggest thing I like though is the d-pad placement. I can actually reach it and still hold the system comfortably. I NEVER used the d-pad on the original but now I use it all the time.

Sounds like you have pretty much the same thoughts as me on the two. Glad you went for the upgrade.
I'll wait for now since I already own a 3DS and I rarely play it anyways. It looks like a nice upgrade when I checked it out at PAX Prime this past weekend but not enough to buy it again for now...

I kind of want to get a 3DS XL, but I got my 3DS at launch, so if I traded it in, I'd be trading in the 20 Ambassador games, not to mention the few other free downloads I've gotten.

You can transfer the games over to the new XL, I havent done it yet, but from what I understand it is very easy to do.
